So losing Max left an Eclectus sized hole in my heart and I started looking for breeders. A guy contacted me in April saying he had a hen on eggs, and we texted back and forth from then until now and long story short, I have a new baby coming home in roughly two months!





Obviously I haven't chosen one yet, but i'm going to sydney next week so I might arrange to visit them while i'm there.

She's costing me $750 all up and i've paid $200, i'll be paying the rest off as she grows and weans. I'll be bringing her home when she's on just an evening feed and finishing her weaning off myself! I'm so excited!

I already had a list of girls names so choosing one was fairly easy. It was a toss up between bella and ruby. I decided against ruby because even though I really like it, it's probably the most common name possible for an eclectus hen (because they're red lol), and I didn't want something that everyone else has too. So I went with bella! Pretty name for a pretty girl :D

I will keep you guys updated! Pete sends me pictures every few days but as you can see he's not the greatest photographer LMAO. I can't wait to get her home.. partially so I can take some good photos of her lol!

I love looking at that second photo, because she looks just like Max at that age except she's red instead of green. It makes me a little sad because I miss him, but then super excited because I can't wait for the future with her

Yep! Eclectus babies are notoriously slow and messy eaters, and if you don't use some kind of bib you'll spend more time cleaning food off their face and chest than you do actually feeding them lol. I learned this the hard way with max.

In the future I may contact the guy I got Max from and see if he can breed me another baby haha. His birds are extremely reliable breeders and he has to keep them separated for periods otherwise they'll just keep breeding.

I can't wait to get bella home! Pete said they can already almost say "hello". Clever girls! He's gonna send me a sound recording of it when he manages to catch it haha, i'll upload it when he does!

My girl is getting bigger! The 2nd baby has been sold so it's just bella now. Pete said she is down to 3 feeds a day and is eating well on her own in between, and is super keen to try new things, which is AMAZING because it will make it a TON easier for me to transition her to a chop diet.

She has some green feathers on her back that she will most likely molt out during her first molt and she'll be pretty red all over. Apparently she loves being around people and is happiest when she's with someone, especially now that her sister is gone.

Part of me wants to just get her paid for ASAP ($500 remaining to pay) and bring her home, but I also remember what a nightmare Max was to hand raise so I want her eating on her own for the most part and only dependent on an evening feed, so I can finish her weaning myself.

Ahhh I am so excited!

She is looking gorgeous!  I know how hard it is to wait it out, but in this case it's the best scenario.  Let little miss Bella be as ready as possible to come home. :)
