Are there any websites very similar to the old xanga? I've been going through a lot emotionally and I remember the old pages I had in high school where I could customize my layout and make private entries. I have tried a few and nothing has really stuck so far. I have tumblr for other things and haven't looked into seeing if I could make a private one, but that is my last resort so far as it isn't really how I imagine it.

Tumblr has a setting to make the blog private or password-protect it last I checked!

Although blogger is a little dated, I think it's still a great format for journaling. (Over the other great options FWF pointed out.) just my two cents!

Agree on what's been posted above! I like Wordpress, but for a private blog, Blogger would be a better option because it's free and hosted.

I prefer wordpress over anything else that is out there these days. I host my own (through WhoIs) but they offer hosted blogs as well.
