Has anyone been? Maybe even for New Years?

MY husband and I are hoping to Fly in Dec30th, and out Jan 1st to celebrate my 30th at New Years Eve at Times Square!

Ive never been period, so not sure where to look for the best spots to stay. B&B vs Hostel vs Hotel?

If anyone has any insights/suggestions/experiences that would be fantastic!

TIA!

I've never been, but it sounds like fun! That would be an awesome way to spend your birthday :).

Joel and I have talked about going to NYC over the summer, but I haven't looked too deeply into hotels yet. From my really quick research, I did find that it would save a BUNCH of money to stay in Brooklyn versus Manhatten, but that's the only advice I have!

I've never been to New York :( I want to go though! I don't know if I'd want to go to Times Square during the holidays or an event because it's probably already crazy with all the people there on a normal day. I'd hate the huge crowds during a special event.

I live in NYC now! Times Square is a huge destination for tourists anytime of the year but especially during the holidays. It's super crowded and can be super intense. all that to say: if you don't like crowds, loud noises, and waiting for a long long long time, it may be a bit of a let down. I recommend an Airbnb (privacy and bargain) or a hotel (privacy) over a hostel (unless you don't need privacy and enjoy a loud, possibly crowded, possibly rowdy atmosphere).

Basically, if you love being around a sea of people, lights, and festivity, Times Square is totally worth checking out! In general, New York City is exquisite in winter. There's so much to do and see beyond Times Square. :)

Oh and I could go on and on about which neighborhood to stay in. Generally Manhattan will be pricier, even Brooklyn will be up there for the hip neighborhoods or the ones very close to the city. If you're looking for a bargain, check out neighborhoods in Queens along the 7 or N/W lines.

If you want Manhattan, tell me the vibe you're going for and I could rattle off a few hoods! ❤

can you tell I love NY? Ha!

We watch the rockin new years eve with dick clark - now ryan seacrest every new years and I totally want to be there one year! So maybe this will be the year!
Ive been looking at Airbnb, theres tons of places walking distance from times square, and cheaper then a hotel. So im thinking we may go that route.

Im hoping we can get a flight that lands us early, so we have a lot of the day the 30th to wander around, then the 31st. I know we wont be doing much before catching our flight out the 1st lmao!

But going for just 1-2 days, what are the must sees? or the must visit places to eat?! Im Canadian, whos only ever been to Florida. so NYC will be a HUGE change!!

SInce you only have a few days, I recommend keeping it close. Central Park is gorgeous, the High Line is a popular destination, the Met is a beautiful museum, Katz's Deli is delicious, popular, and still has a bit of old school NY to it. It's also worth just walking around some neighborhoods like Greenwich Village and the Upper West Side.

If you want to see a show, try TodayTix or the TKTS booth for discount tickets. One of my favorite cheap (but excellent) things to do is see a comedy show at Upright Citizens Brigade.
