I don't see too many people buying outside lines anymore. Is it just me, or have other people also noticed this?

I know my Unicorns aren't a popular breed and have just learned to accept that people won't really want them, but it just seems that breeds/backups in general really don't sell, or if they do, it's for super cheap. 

I just don't see people offering very fair prices for quality lines. In my opinion, if it's an 8th generation and almost all 2 miller lines, the foal should be worth at least 10 mill.... am I wrong in my thinking?

No, your not the only one that thinks this. I have also noticed it myself and I also agree that some people don't offer fair prices for backups. 

One of the reasons why, I usually NEVER sell any of my backups because if they are bought that they won't get any  training done and they will just sit there and eventually end up in the Humane Alliance. 

I also don't think your wrong at all for thinking that an 8th generation and almost all 2 miller lines, the foal should be worth 10 mil! A price for a foal like that I think that 10 mil is for sure a fair price. :)

I always post my backups in my sales post. Most of the breeds I know will never get any nibbles (even ones that aren't random and obscure yet I'm somehow like the only breeder of them, like the American Pitbull Terrier....). I still get nibbles on Paints, TBs, AQHs, and Goldens at least once a month or two. 

I have also picked up other peoples' backups when I wanted to start a new breed, like I did with my Fjords, Vanners...

Also did a trade with fenway the other week...her backup Canadian Horse for my backup Canadian Horse :D

It does happen, I just think people don't pay out the nose for it, and it's usually for the breeds that a bunch of people do, like the above mentioned ones.

I've not done a ton of breeding so my experience is limited. I got a tiny bit of interest in my exmoors (avarage points, 6th gen) but they never sold so off to deletion they went. On the other hand, I bred my gypsy vanners (also average points but only 2nd gen) and they all sold for asking price. The main difference that I could tell was that I wasn't doing the Prism color genetics with the exmoors and there wasn't anyone invested in the breed to care to pull lines from anyone else. Like, I love to share lines but it has to be a breed that I care about because otherwise I just can't stick with it. 

I don't socialize as much on here as I would like to (thanks anxiety), so I don't totally know who breeds what, or what fair prices for foals/pups are at the moment. All my animals are currently gen 1 (a few that are close to breeding time), but I totally love the idea of mixing lines!

I did buy your unicorns as I wasnt interested in starting my own lines. If that wasnt high enough I couldve paid more. 

I just was meaning in general WT, and this post was made well before you bought my backups. I'm happy to sell them for cheaper to new/returning players and I don't generally ask a lot for them, but I just find it hard to sell backups from ANY of my breeds, not just Unicorns. 

I buy backups all the time, but I never see them adverised. I know I have blitz, binny, lemo, moorf, mango, nad, phism, and siib lines - probably more, but I cannot remember. I do agree that not a lot of players seem to buy them anymore and I am guilty of not breeding mine anymore because the ones I did breed I had to delete. I wonder what is the best way to get the word out about backups that are upcoming so we would know whether or not to breed them.

I only breed 1 thing at a time (currently hell hounds previous flametas) as my ADHD leads to me only being interested for so long. I'd love to buy backup hell hounds to breed with mine to get some different lines! But, I think what holds me back is me being worried that I won't do that backup justice? and somehow it'll fail or not hold up to expectations.

I meant I couldve/wouldve paid more. Hard work is worth a payout. I guess I didnt word that correctly.

I am currently the only breeder of all my lines, but at one time I tried to get a pup from every greyhound breeder in the game. Got most of them (one breeder refused to sell a backup as their lines were private) and mixed them all in to get a super pup, lol. 

I am thinking of doing another horse breed for my Revival project and would love to get older lines mixed in as a starter.

I don't even breed backups anymore because I am the only AmStaff breeder currently. I had one new player message me and asked for a backup/breeding and I got SO excited, but they haven't logged back in since then ): (*editing to say that they actually have now so I'm still hopeful lol) I'm also hopeful that when I get the AmStaff Embassy going later this month I can entice some players to start a few lines. If my life ever slows down I want to start up a few more breeds again and I will be sure to remember to buy someones backups when I do! But if anyone is looking for a new puppo breed heres my plug for the AmStaffs :D

I occasionally buy backup GSDs, but because I have so many of my own dogs plus I'm still trying to save money when I can, I don't do it often.

With GSDs, I breed backups and post them for sale, but they rarely sell, so I delete them. I currently have some gen 3 and a gen 19 for sale. The former are only $3m each and the latter is $25m with free store mate.

My other breeds are Shires and Goldens (descended from a pup bought from Blitz), but with Shires, there's only Neke. My Goldens are private.

I'm with everyone else, I think I'm the only current breeder of shelties and collies, so I don't even breed backups. I think moreso if someone was interested in the breed and wanted someone's lines, that they could then reach out to someone about them to have a backup bred for them specifically or something like that?

eta: also just wanted to add for the record, I actually don't mind being the only breeder! Or one of them, I don't think either have been huge breeds. I appreciate that this game is still fun and it doesn't detract at all from my experience with it, sometimes I enjoy it being mostly my dogs anyway.

I've tried to start being more mindful of players selling backups and seeing if I can blend them into my breeds.

(For example, I breed Pintaloosas so I can buy either Paints or Appy's.) 

And in turn, I've tried to be MORE pro active on breeding backups and selling. I have gotten good bites on some breeds and others,...nothing. It's hit or miss. I feel like horse breeds have sold better than dogs, though.

i guess somehow I feel it would add a level of fun to the game if more people were buying and selling lines and having other people's lines incorporated. 
but I have my....13 breeds now, and most of them do have outside lines. If I want to keep my lines private, I just add a divider for my private lines, and then a divider for outside lines. Generally I don't sell backups from outside lines without the breeders permission though. :)

I just started Kiger Mustangs (thanks to Pants!), Gypsy Vanners (thanks to Shadowfox!), Foxes (inspiration from Jade), and then I have Blitz lines in my Golden's, Amberellie in my paints, Uta in my DWB's, Evie in my Fell's, BV and Glitch in my Fjords. 

I love having and incorporating others lines!

I think part of the problem is that 90% of the breeds don't have that many breeders. So if you have less than 5 breeders and all of their horses are due to be bred at different times, then buying backups would mean starting an extra string of horses rather than incorporating them into current strings. I do buy from other players and try to bring other lines into my 'public' lines as often as possible (the line paranoia has me a bit with my private lines, unless I know the player I'm buying from very well), but it often just doesn't work out time-wise.

I have 16 breeds and for several of those I am the sole breeder, so when I tried to sell back-ups there was zero interest. It's why I'm trying to incentivise people to start breeding lusitanos more, because I'd love to see the market for them at least get stronger.

But I agree, it would be lovely if there was more of a market for routine horse sales and not just the truly exceptional foals (which, lbr, still often don't sell for even a fraction of the price that it would have cost to get their parents so high).

I think from someone who likes to add outside lines, if I don't see people advertising, I just kinda assume that their lines are private.
