I'm not sure if this is the right area for this, but it is a general discussion topic?

Anyways, I applied for a job with a new company about a month ago. Completely went out of my comfort zone and put myself out there. 
I have been at my current job for almost 9 years (December marks 9) and over those years I have had many times that I have absolutely hated my job, been so stressed and anxiety filled that it made me physically I'll. But I continued on because the pay was better than any local company around here would pay, and we got health insurance and vacation time. I live in a very rural area in Montana, so those things are hard to come by. 

After I applied, I got a call within 2 days to set up an interview, had the interview and felt it went rather well, but I have a very hard time talking myself up, so of course doubt continually creeps in. I hadn't heard anything for about a week, then got a call from the recruiter, who said the position I applied for had been filled by an internal employee looking for sideways career path shift, BUT there was another job opening similar to what I applied for, but it was in small business and not commercial. I told her I was also interested in that position, and she said I should hear back by the end of the week. This week came and went and I never heard back. Then the following week I get a phone call from the director of the new position, and she said they gave all the notes and answers from my first interview to her, but she would like to set up a semi formal interview so she could talk with me and get a feel for herself and see if I might fit with her job. 
After we had the interview, we both had some thinking to do, as they wanted me to be commuting 2 hours a day to and from work, which I told her just wasn't realistic for me.

She called me back at my lunch break on Tuesday of this week for a couple follow up questions and said I had been moved up to the next bucket and am a potential candidate, but we had to try to find a way for it to work for both of us. When I brought up the commuting again, and if the remote work would be possible, she said "I don't know why I have not thought of this until now, but we have this other position open, it is a behind the scenes type of position, where it is remote, and you are really the soul of the company because without this team, we couldn't operate. She told me the basics of the job and even gave me a name and number of one of their current employees to talk to. 
I called this person and had a great conversation with her, decided it would be a good way to get my feet in the door with the company, get the training and licensing I need, and be able to not have to be customer facing and commuting. Now the only thing was to wait and see what they would offer as a salary, and if I was even offered the job. 

I called the director back and left a message telling her the conversation went really well and I would definitely be interested, to and let me know if there was anymore she needed from me to make her decision. 

You guys..... she called me back within 5 minutes, and said "I am calling to offer you the job, and here is the compensation package we are offering you!"

They are STARTING me at $2.61 an hour MORE than what I currently make at my job after nearly 9 years of being there! Not to mention the company offers profit sharing and quarterly incentive payouts that will put me at a total wage increase of over $11k annually from where I am at now. And SO MUCH LESS STRESS AND ANXIETY!! 

I am beyond excited and this has been such a whirlwind experience, I just wanted to share my excitement and happiness with you all!

Thanks everyone! I panicked all day yesterday after I gave my current boss my notice, but today I just feel so good about everything and my decision. 

If this can be a lesson to anyone else, let me say to you; Step out of your comfort zone! Allow yourself to try new things and put yourself out there, you never know what opportunities may be waiting for you!!

I changed jobs in April, after working in the same place for 10 years. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever done, but I am the happiest I have ever been. Higher income, better hours, and bosses that actually know my name. I wish I'd done it years ago! 

Well done to you for having the courage to take the plunge. I hope it is everything you want it to be! x
