Shires Could Become EXTINCT!

Just found this via Yahoo!'s news section. I so much hope this doesn't happen. Such a terrible loss, if it does. |

I read that too! Not the same article, but that Shires were become more and more rare. :/ Clydesdales are definitely one of the most popular and populous draft or draft crosses in the U.S. I thought the Shire was more popular in Britain. |

Clydes are probably only thanks to Budweiser Clydes. But Shires are lovely, so sad to see they're at risk. :( |

I agree with Siib. Popularity is a big factor in maintaining a breed. I'm not sure if that article mentions it (the one I read was through Horse & Hound's FB page), but Suffolk Punches are also in decline, unfortunately. |

I know quite a few peeps with riding Clydes over here, even some that work their farms with them. Dealers always seem to be advertising them on Facebook...Shires I don't know of any personally. But then I am in Scotland so more likely to find a Clydesdale. |

This makes me so sad. Draught horses are my favourite type of horse.... and I grew up absolutely loving Shires! |
