Wednesday night (the day I finally got my braces off!) my phone decided to bite the dust. Won't charge, screen won't turn on, it just does nothing. So now I need a new phone ASAP. Except I don't know what to choose: Samsung or Apple? But that's not all! My laptop is also on its way out (6 yo, battery lasts ~30 min unplugged, super slow). Ideally I'd like to match the phone to the laptop so Windows/Android and Mac/Apple. The only 2 laptops I've had lasted 6 years and by the end they were basically desktops since they always had to be plugged in. Guys I just want a reliable laptop that will last me through college and that can handle photoshop and multiple tabs open constantly. I was set to go for Apple then my Dad said "why apple? have you seen the new samsung?!" and I'm forever indecisive so I'm stuck and need help.

I've always only had iPhones and enjoy them a lot, however I always seemed to run into issues with my Macbook back when I had one. They're very pricy for the kind of power/storage they offer, and you're definitely paying through the nose for the brand rather than any sort of super-special hardware. I've never had compatibility issues between my iPhones/PCs, so I wouldn't worry too much about that! :)
For the record: my iPhones have all lasted at least 3 years without any notable issues (I'm on a 3-year upgrade cycle so I usually switch them out after 3 years regardless of issues). My Macbook Pro (purchased in 2010 to take to college) lasted just long enough for the Apple Care to end (3 years, four months) before it somehow burned a hole through the motherboard (???) and would crash within seconds of turning it on. The cost to replace the motherboard was more than the value of the entire Macbook at that point so I sold it for parts. My current laptop has been with me since then (early 2013) and is only just now starting to have battery life issues, which aren't that big of a deal since I usually plug it in to use it. |

I used to have IPhones more often than Android, but I personally hate the changes they're making (mostly the lack of fingerprint unlocking). I've had a Samsung S9 Plus for about six months now and I LOVE it so much more than my IPhone. I had to make some changes in the settings, but my battery life lasts longer on the Samsung now. Both brands last me just as long as the other so really I don't see a huge difference in that category. I've always used screen protectors and cases. Apple laptops are really not worth it. They charge you an insane amount of money for the tech specifications, I rarely hear good stories about their long life, and never hear stories about easy or cheap fixes. There are so many Windows laptop options though it can be a bit intimidating. Lol.
If you're wanting a laptop that can run Photoshop and multiple tabs comfortably at the same time without any issues, I wouldn't buy anything with less than an i5 processor (higher number the better i.e. 8000 vs 5000) and 8 GB of Ram. Ideally if you can swing it though, I would definitely recommend an I7 processor and/or 16 GB Ram, and maybe an SSD (anything less than 512 GB, unless it has a secondary hard drive for primary storage, is not worth it because the Windows operating system can take up a lot of space) for longevity and COMPLETE smoothness. Sometimes you can get a really solid gaming level laptop for less than $1000 USD and that will give you all of my recommended and more.
And let's face it, if you're going for a potential Mac, you're looking to spend near that or over anyway for less than what the Windows laptop will provide you with. And most repairs or upgrades can be performed by you instead for a fraction of the price Apple will charge you.
Feel free to message me if you have any further questions or want a second opinion on a laptop before you buy. (: |

Personally I'm a fan of apple for both. They last longer and they're more user friendly. If you're not going to be doing a bunch of customization of the hardware and features or doing any PC gaming, then there's no reason for you to have a PC, especially since Apple tends to be more graphic design friendly anyway. In addition, you gamble a lot with PC's because the hardware can be made by any company and they vary widely in quality, when you buy an apple you know what you're getting straight out of the box. As far as phones, I just think iPhones are more user friendly than Samsungs. |

I am an apple person. I bought my current macbook in January 2014 and it still works like the day I bought it. Battery still lasts for my entire school day and I have used this laptop for several hours per day, everday since the day I bought it. |

I'm kinda like Maha lol. I could own an Apple phone, like I see why people like them, but -shrug- However my experience with Apple computers annoys me every time. I seriously don't get how people think they're more user-friendly than any other brand. |

Same as the last two haha. I am a full-blown Iphone fan for life but I am definitely for the pc's. Idk what I'd be using my laptop for that'd make it better if it was a mac that connected with my phone...I've never had any reason to other than transferring pictures to my laptop which works just fine with a USB cable. My most recent purchase was a Dell and while it wasn't my first choice, I was pressed for time and money and basically settled for what my budget could afford at that time (old one bit the dust right in the middle of college classes x.x), but it's been very good to me. Otherwise I probably would've gotten the Samsung laptop. :P |

I'm 100% an Apple gal. I have an Android for a work phone and I hate it. iPhone and Macbook for liiiiiiiife. My laptop is now eight years old and it's still working really well (albeit a bit slow!). |

I'll be the person who says get a Samsung phone. I have had iPhones and they are horrible in my climate. The ones I've had the batteries always die of the temperature is 35°F or under (useless). I have owned every new Samsung Galaxy for the past 6 years and havent been disappointed. I've got my s10 already preordered. But! I hate PCs. They don't last, come with a lot of preloaded junk. The windows software is much harder to navigate than it used to be. So I say get a Mac and an Android. I never have problems syncing my data between the two because everything I have is throifh my iCloud or Google account anyways. |

Thanks for your input everyone! It seems like iphone is the clear winner here and I have to say I like the thought of a different phone (last one was a s6 edge) but the s10 coming out looks really nice too! And it's pretty split between mac and pc...guess I need to do some research Keep sending me your thoughts and recommendations! I appreciate it guys you're the best :D |
