The Triple Crown Game

It's that time of the year again! This game was established in 2012 and has run almost every year since. It is something that a lot of players look forward to playing and I'm thrilled that I am able to run it as a Mod this year with additional prizes!

Please be sure to read through ALL the information below before entering. You don't need to be online the day of the race or personally watch it in order to participate. You don't even need to know anything about horse racing!

If you have any questions, please send me a message.

Opening dates listed below are tentative. They may open later than this depending on the information available for the horses running. I will post a reply to this forum thread when the draws for each race open.


🌹 Kentucky Derby: 4/28 10:00am EST through 5/4 6:00pm EST
🌻 Preakness Stakes: 5/12 1:00pm EST through 5/18 6:00pm EST
🌼 Belmont Stakes: 6/2 9:00am EST through 6/8 5:30pm EST





Draw 1: 4mil
Draw 2: 7mil
Draw 3: 10mil

Send the HPD to #113 with "TTCG DRAWS" in the reason box. When you purchase a draw, one of the horses running in the race will be chosen at random by a generator and assigned to you. You can purchase up to three draws total per race. Prizes will be rewarded to players whose horses place in the top 3 spots at the conclusion of the races.

All funds received for draws are added to the jackpot. Every jackpot will automatically begin at 50mil.

I will post a new reply to this thread each time winners are announced and draws open for the next race.

Example

1. Prynne sends 10mil to #113 for a Draw 3 for the Kentucky Derby.
2. I draw 3 horses at random for Prynne: Tacitus, Roadster, and Spinoff.
3. It is now 5/4 and the Kentucky Derby just ran!
4. Roadster placed 2nd, but Tacitus and Spinoff placed 5th and 8th respectively.
5. Since Prynne had their name assigned to Roadster, they win the 2nd place prize. If another players name was also on Roadster, they would split the jackpot for 2nd place and the 7 bonus energy to an animal would be raffled to either Prynne or the other winner.

Extra Information

• Each draw will take into account which horses have not been drawn yet. If someone has drawn TACITUS, TACITUS will not be drawn again until all other horses have been drawn. This will ensure that at least every horse is drawn at least once.

• In the event that one of your picks is scratched (removed) from the race, one of two things will happen.
1. If an alternate is entered in its place, your pick will be applied to the alternate.
2. If no alternate is entered, you will be drawn a replacement horse from the generator.

• If you win, you will never win less than you paid in. If you paid 10mil for a draw 3, but your split winnings of the jackpot amounts to less than 10mil, I will pay the difference to make your winnings total 10mil.




PARTICIPATION RAFFLE: Everyone that participates in a race will earn 1 raffle ticket towards a drawing for 7,500 points for an animal. This drawing will occur after each race.

HPD DONATIONS: Donate 15mil towards the jackpot and receive 3x entries into the participation raffle for the current and remaining races. This means if you donate during the Derby, you will earn 3x entries for all three participation prize raffles as long as you purchase at least one draw per race. Each player can only donate ONCE. If multiple players donate during one race, some donations may be added to a future race jackpot instead of the current race to keep all jackpot prizes equally large.

FIRST PLACE: 50% of the jackpot split between winners. 10 extra energy for a horse or dog raffled to one of the winners if multiple are eligible.

SECOND PLACE: 30% of the jackpot split between winners. 7 extra energy for a horse or dog raffled to one of the winners if multiple are eligible.

THIRD PLACE: 20% of the jackpot split between winners. 4 extra energy for a horse or dog raffled to one of the winners if multiple are eligible.

BONUS: If you purchase a DRAW 3 and all three horses place in the top three, you will win 15,000 points for an animal. This will only be awarded to one person. If multiple people are eligible, one winner will be drawn via generator.

You can now purchase draws for The Kentucky Derby!
Draws can be purchased until May 4th at 6:00pm EST.


General Race Information

Post Position Draw will occur on April 30th at 11am EST. This draw determines which position each horse will start from and can be very important in determining how well a horse will run the race. For more information on the importantance of post position, click here! Morning-line (starting) odds for the race will be announced shortly after the draw.

Post time for the race is May 4th at 6:50pm EST. This is when the horses will begin making their way to the gate to start the race. All of the races during this day can be watched on NBC Sports between 12:00pm and 2:30pm EST and then it will swap to NBC between 2:30pm and 7:25pm.


Fun Facts

01. Nineteen past winners have had names beginning with the letter "S," including Secretariat, the fastest horse in Kentucky Derby history, who completed the 1973 race in just under two minutes.

02. Only three horses raced in the 1892 Kentucky Derby.

03. The traditional drink of the Derby is the mint julep, and over 120,000 are said to be consumed at the race each year.

04. The youngest jockey to win the esteemed race, Alonzo "Lonnie" Clayton, was just 15 come derby day in 1892. Bill Shoemaker continues to hold the title as the oldest winner; he was 54 when he took home the 1986 title.

05. The Derby is also referred to as 'The Run for the Roses' because the winner is awarded a blanket sewn with over 400 roses post-race. This blanket weighs about 40 lbs.

06. Horses must be three years or younger in order to compete.

07. The Derby has never been cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather.

08. The Kentucky Derby was started by Lewis Clark Jr.—grandson of William Clark, half of the famous explorer duo Lewis and Clark—after he saw England's Epsom Derby.

09. Only three fillies (female horses) have won the Derby: Regret in 1915, Genuine Risk in 1980, and Winning Colors in 1988.

10. The race was first televised in 1952.

I watch this yearly (the forum game) and I always want to play, but I know not one damn thing about the Kentucky Derby. -hangs head in shame-

There will be 3 races that comprise the Triple Crown: Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. The Triple Crown is the achievement earned when a horse wins all 3 races in a row. This game will happen 3 times; once for each race.

All you need to do to participate is send HPD according to how many draws you want for the current race. For example, if you send 10mil for a Draw 3, I will draw 3 horses from the current race (which right now is the Kentucky Derby) at random and assign your name to them. More than one person can get assigned a horse, but every horse will be assigned one person before any horse will receive a second assigned person.

Whichever horses place in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at the conclusion of the race will win prizes for their assigned people.

Example:
1. Prynne sends 10mil to #113 for a Draw 3.
2. I draw 3 horses at random for Prynne: Tacitus, Roadster, and Spinoff.
3. It is now 5/4 and the Kentucky Derby just ran!
4. Roadster placed 2nd, but Tacitus and Spinoff placed 5th and 8th respectively.
5. Since Prynne had their name assigned to Roadster, they win the 2nd place prize.

Oh this will be fun! Especially since this year I will be at the Kentucky Derby in RL, and btw I think Tacitus is my rl favorite pick! Lol :)

Unfortunately, Omaha Beach has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby due to breathing problems (entrapped epiglottis). Thankfully it's not career or life threatening, but it will prevent him from running in the Derby. Wishing you well, Omaha Beach!

Bodexpress has entered the race in his place and will start from post position 20 which previously belonged to Country Horse (all of the horses after position 12 will be moved down a spot in the starting gate to compensate for the missing horse, but their numbers will not change; i.e. Country Horse will wear the number 20, but will start from position 19). Bodexpress's number will be 21.

Olympea was the only player assigned to Omaha Beach and has been swapped to Bodexpress due to this change.

When I saw the news about Omaha Beach, I had to come see immediately, how this would affect the game (and me), but we're good lol!

Haikal has been scratched from the race due to an abscess in his left front hoof. Even though he'll miss the Derby, he'll get better with some rest. (:

Horses starting from positions 1 through 10 have been bumped up a spot to compensate for the missing horse which means post positions 2 through 20 will be used in the starting game. The original numbers assigned to the horses will not be changed I.E. War of Will originally was assigned to post 1 and wears 1 as his number. He has been moved to post 2 now due to scratches, but will retain 1 as his number.

There were two people assigned to Haikal; Concourse and Sangre. Due to no alternates entering the race in his spot, I've randomly reassigned both players to a new horse. Concourse drew CODE OF HONOR. Sangre drew SPINOFF.



Less than 24 hours to join in, everyone! Get your draws before it's too late!

Congrats Monnie and Sangre!!  That was a lonnnnggggggg few minutes pending the review! (and P.S. I'm only happy for Monnie and Sangre right now haha)

Note to self: research some racing rules, I had no idea about any of that

 

Can't wait for the next 2 races! :)

I love how Monnie had Country House and Maximum Security, so it didn't matter how the ruling went lol!
