Reading Slump

I have picked up and put down so many books lately. None of them hold my attention and it is really kind of annoying. This is not normal for me at all and I have a few ARCs I desperately need to shuffle through.
What do you do when you are in a reading slump? Any advice you wanna throw my way, please do. What are you guys currently reading? Maybe that will help. |

I also rarely put down books without finishing them, but it did happen with this one book. I just put it back on my shelf and moved onto the next book in my unread pile. However, I also go through phases where I don't feel like reading at all, so I just do one of my other hobbies, like knitting. As for recommendations... The Millenium series (aka The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and all the other books) Anything by Fred Vargas (I've read A Climate of Fear and The Accordionist so far. If you like crime, this is good stuff) Anything Margaret Atwood (last thing I read by her was Stone Mattress, it's a bunch of short stories) The Half-Drowned King by Linnea Hartsuyker Anything Neil Gaiman |

The Millenium series has been sitting on my TBR shelf for years. Margaret Atwood is always a good read. I will have to sort through and see if I have anything on hand by her.
As for the rest, I'll be looking them up. The name Neil Gaiman sounds very familiar, but I cannot put a title to the author for some odd reason.
Yeah I usually always finish and push through even if I hate it, but right now everything is just getting 3-7 chapters read then I stick it back into my TBR pile. Hoping something grabs me and drags me in eventually. (I NEED A LITERARY VACATION, if you know what I mean.) |

Neil Gaiman does a lot of short stories, like in Trigger Warning (not what you think, more like those short stories you read in school that fuck you up and you wish you could write so well and mysteriously) and in Fragile Things. He's also written (or more like re-written/re-told) Norse Mythology, and has a book called American Gods. He's kinda like Atwood, in the sense that they both pump out so many books that I can't keep track lol. Take the literary vacation since you need it so bad. Crochet a few projects until that becomes boring again and then go back to reading. It's so much better than forcing yourself to read (or do anything, for that matter) if you don't have to do it. |

I recently read No Exit by Taylor Adams and it's super fast paced and entertaining! It took me maybe 4 hours to whip through the entire book. I do have some complaints about his writing of the main character and some other stuff, but overall the story is good. |

Tana - I haven't been able to crochet in months due to my carpal tunnel getting worse. But what I meant by literary vacation is I need a vacation and usually I take those by diving into a book and escaping an hour or two at the end of the day.
Sam - Looked that up and that sounds so interesting. I am about to jump on my local library catalog and see if I can pick it up. |

Knock on wood, but I'm just getting out of a slump. I'd be really excited starting a book, then 5 chapters in I'd have to force myself to keep going.
Your best bet is to try to get yourself to read a chapter of whatever it is a night and, even if it takes you a month to finish, keep powering through. You'll eventually inevitably hit the climax and it'll grab you again. |

I did get through a few chapters of I'll Be Gone in the Dark last night and I've been pretty impressed with that one, but that subject has interested me for a while (I mean... it was what I was in college for, so maybe this is how I should have went).
This slump has been on and off since having my second kid and I think a good chunk of the issue is I always feel like I should be doing something else. I have 2 books by my favorite authors I need to read before her new one come out this year and I don't know if I will be able to (but that has more to do with not wanting to ruin an autographed copy by accident and not having the funds to buy another copy).
I guess I will just truck through Saving Meghan (the current ARC I keep trying to finish) and make myself read a chapter a night regardless of whether I want to stop or not. |

So I am now happily sucked into like four books and it's a struggle cause I wanna read them all right now, and I have to pick and choose.
Nonfiction: I'll Be Gone in the Dark < 3 Holy crap I am having small bits of old passions reactivated by this book. It's so good. (ebook) Audio Books: The Other Woman by Sandie Jones (almost done) and when I couldn't listen to this earlier to an error on my part I got sucked into a book called Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell and went through the first 2 hours while finish some work I had to do. Fiction: One of Us is Lying by Karen M McManus - which I ordered ages ago and was going through some books to donate to the local library system and I found a stash of books I ordered then promptly forgot about. -,- I fail, but I am so glad I found it. |

I really enjoyed the Children of Eden trilogy by Joey Graceffa. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, but overall, I enjoyed the series. Lisa Bardugo is really popular around work right now. I've heard nothing but good things of Six of Crows and Shadow of Bone series. |
