So I don't think i'm gonna get Sam back. I will never stop looking, and I will keep posting my ads and flyers. But I do hope that whoever stole him from me is looking after him properly and giving him the love and attention he needs and deserves. I hope with every ounce of my being that I get him back someday, and I will always love him.

In the mean time, i'm going crazy without a big birb. I adore Zoe, she's my girl, but there's a large birb sized hole in my heart and I need to fill it before I lose my mind.

I decided to venture away from Eclectus this time around. So I posted an ad on Gumtree looking for a Blue Fronted Amazon. I found an ad that was posted a few days ago, and i'm fairly certain the seller posted an ad about the same birb last week. This particular birb's beak was damaged during hand raising (how the hell that happened I have no idea, I didn't ask) and the seller said in the ad that it's slowly growing back. I was drawn to this birb because it seemed so friendly even though it's in an aviary. The beak deformity made me awww, I thought it was adorable. So after going back to the ad several times, I finally decided to message the guy.

He said he was literally about to reply to my ad to show me this birb, but wasn't sure if I would be interested because of the beak and the fact that she is in an aviary. He said she has an extremely friendly personality, and while she isn't quite hand tame anymore, she does fly over to him whenever he enters the aviary, sits on him and preens his hair. He said she was going to step up the other day before one of his kids spooked her. He doesn't feel it would take very long to tame her once she's out of the aviary and being interacted with every day.
He hasn't had her DNA tested but he has bred them for many years and is confident she is female. His daughters name all of the hand raised babies but they haven't been calling her by her name since she was put into the aviary. But I don't mind it, i'll have her DNA tested myself and unless her results tell me she's a boy, i'll keep her name.

So, this is Piper.











I'll be picking her up either this weekend, or Monday/Tuesday next week.

I still can't believe Sam is gone, and I hope with every fiber of my being that you get him back safe and sound. This birb is so pretty, though, and I see what you mean about the beak! So beautiful!

He said a lot of people have been turned off by her beak, even though it's growing back. I think it's adorable lol. Being in Sydney now am very close to most of the avian vets. Instead of 3 hours drive i'm maximum 1/2 hour. So I can take her for regular checkups so that we can be sure it's growing correctly and doesn't misalign. She's only 6 months old so it's important that it grows correctly so that it doesn't cause difficulties for her later in her life.

I can't wait to get her home. I haven't had to actually work on taming a bird for a long time. I've either bred and hand raised or bought super young (under a month old) and hand raised, so it will be good for me to have to put some effort in to gain Piper's trust and build a relationship.

In the meantime, someone really close to where I live messaged me on facebook yesterday and said she saw a male eclectus in the trees around her house. She is like 5 minutes from me. So i'm gonna take a driver over there tomorrow and have a look in the trees...

She's hoooome.

It was a loooong day. I left at 5:30am this morning and got home at just before 6pm. Most of it was driving. I'm tiiiired lol.

Piper seems to be settling in well. I let her out when I got home seeing as she'd been cooped up in a cage all day. She did a few laps around the house and is now napping on top of her cage in the kitchen. She isn't fond of hands right now so every now and then i'll try to get her to step up onto a stick. My hope is that she'll step up and i'll be able to put her in her cage for the night hassle-free lol.

Yay! Has she interacted with your other birb yet (birbs? I know of Sam and Zoe, are there others?) or is she just gonna get settled in for the night first?

I probably won't introduce piper to zoe until she's settled in well. Zoe can be a real bitch lol and i'm pretty sure piper was being picked on by other birbs in her aviary so I don't want to stress her out. Zoe's only little but she doesn't act like it haha.

I got piper to step up onto the stick, and I was able to put her in her cage without having to use gloves or a towel. Super happy. She's such a smart cookie.

Aww what a sweet birb! I still can't get over the fact that other people wouldn't take her because of her beak, but I'm so glad you were able to take her!! ^^

Ash, she is such a pretty girl < 3 I'm happy she finally made it home :)

I let her out this morning and she did some flying and landed in an awkward spot, I offered my arm for her to step up and she did it! It was very brief but I am so proud lol.
She also landed on my head last night LOL
