Is this something new or is it a bug? I bred my SSA back ups a couple of weeks ago then bred them again today and the new foals came with a blank and changeable brand, whereas the backups came pre-branded with my original brand. 

The branding for my foals/puppies has always been the blank and changeable option, so I know for sure that it's not new.

I'm confused...

That's what's supposed to happen! :). Brands aren't inherited (although I think they show that way sometimes in the pedigree or offspring page? I can't remember, I will have to make a note to look at that).
