I can't do life without an Eclectus so I decided for sure I was gonna get another one with some of my Cadbury prize money. Well I picked him up today!

He's 5 weeks old and he's naked. At first I didn't know why but have since discovered that his parents are pluckers. He'll be fine now that he's away from them and his feathers will get a chance to grow. I don't know if his down will grow back or if he'll just stay nekkid until his big boy pins sprout lol.

Anyway here he is;



Right now he's looking at me from inside his box. He can stretch his neck all the way out and see over the top but he's too tired to hold his head up so he's using his beak to hang on to the edge lol.

He's really cute, although the lack of feathers looks kinda silly. I noticed from Facebook that his parents plucked him... why do they do that?

No idea, birbs are weird. It's apparently pretty common for eclectus hens to start plucking babies around the time she expects them to leave the nest, and if breeders sell them at 3-4 weeks and sell straight out of the nest box like this guy's breeder does, it probably explains why he's stripped bare (he's 5 weeks so been in the nest a week or two longer than average)
We really don't know why though lol

Nobody around here stocks the vetafarm formula I want to put him on so I have to order it. He's doing well but he's gonna blossom once he's on the good stuff.

HE IS SO ADORABLE!

He still doesn't have a name, but i'm leaning strongly towards "teddy" because he's becoming really, really cuddly. Tonight he was going crazy trying to climb out of his brooder and he has been curious all day so I brought him out for a while and he just wanted to cuddle. I cuddled him until I needed to pee lol then put him back and he's been good so far.

Teddy sounds like a great name!

He's getting really into solid food already. He'll happily devour mandrin segments and i've been giving him a few Nutri Grains (cereal) to munch on during the day and he loves them. He's just now starting to get steamed veggies for lunch. I also had to move him to a cage because he's super good at climbing!
