Work advice?

Well, this is kind of a vent and kind of asking for advice.

Ive been a phlebotomist at a large hospital for about a year. My year is up August 13th. I enjoy what I do but I hate my hours, I hate the management, I hate the pace of it. I’m really very good at what I do. I make decent money. I have great benefits. And since I make more money now than ever before I was able to adopt my horse Normandy in December and I am thrilled about being a horse owner. I also just bought a house with the help of my parents so Normandy can move home.

My dilemma is that between not loving the job. Never seeing my boyfriend or his son. Never seeing Normandy or the other pets. I want to get out of the hospital. But I need the money. You know? I don’t know what else to do. I want to be home more. Any job in the hospital will be the same amount of hours and not as much money. The hours might be better, typica 8 hour shifts, but I’ll be driving 45 miles to work 2 extra days a week. So really, there’s no perk besides better schedule.

I want a remote job. Something where I can work from home doing like data entry or blogging or something of the sort, but I don’t think I’ll make nearly enough money to support myself and my animals. I just don’t want to be miserable anymore. You know?

Meep. This job causes so much tension between my boyfriend and me as well. Because of the crappy hours (11am-9:30pm). He doesn’t know what to say anymore. He wants me to quit and do anything else but I can’t just quit without knowing if I’ll be able to afford everything! Ugh!

so yeah. Some advise would be nice. Maybe a job offer. Either way. Thanks for reading.

This is crazy I was about to go on here and make a post asking for advice too.. I’m a phlebotomist as well at a large hospital I actually just transferred hospitals.. I’m very good at what I do but my hearts not in it I don’t like the management or house where I am either and it’s put a strain on my life and I’ve honestly been so depressed my husband is wanting me to quit and change professions but I’ve been unsure how to

hamdle it and what my family will think.

Yikes :(

Are you able to talk with management about schedule changes?
Maybe there are smaller clinics or urgent care type places that might be around with similar pay? I honesly have no idea about the medical field.

It wouldn't hurt to research when you can at home to see what other positions are around, that way you can still work for the money until an alternative can be found to get hired into?

Personally, there's no way I could just quit my job without having something else lined up. I know your BF has to be frustrated but it's unrealistic to just bail on a job as an adult and not expect the negative consequenses that come along with that. Like you said, you have a new house payment and a new horse to keep up with.

Is there a possibility of your hours changes as you stay with the job longer or are you stuck with what you have for the forseeable future? It's hard to get a flexible schedule with a larger hospital like that some times but maybe you could work longer shifts but less days. That way you have more home time? If you want to try something completely different, maybe the hospital has a job listing site or talk to your HR department. I know some hospitals or insurance companies have people working from home doing calls or verify medical records.

I took a paycut when I switched jobs 7 years ago but it was the best decision I've made in my adult life. The management there was aweful and I needed out. Went to a totally different field and town even but things finally came together in my life. Keep your head up!

Thanks everyone :) I’ve been talking to my manager about some schedule changes but nothing is budging. I am hoping to come up with something in the future. I am over it though. My back hurts. My hand hurts. I want to see my horse.
