Does anyone here use a bitless bridle? If so, what kind do you use?
I'm planning to get one for Brooks, but I'm debating between a side pull, a jumper's hackamore, and a dr. cook's bitless bridle. |

I use a rope hackamore on all of my horses. I also start all the young horses and every horse that comes into training with me in one. |

Dr. Cooks Bitless Bridle: I have been using Dr. Cook's Bitless Bridle for over a year now; she responds very well with it. When asking her to turn, it is a soft, light pull pressure and moderate push pressure on the opposite cheek. This bridle also helps tuck her nose and round her neck for collection and gaiting (she is a Tennessee Walker). It is very simple to put on and take off. There are only two parts to buckle and unbuckle, the noseband and the throat latch. The reins are longer than most, but this gives a nice release. It comes in many colors and sizes and has a few attachments. If you get the attachments, you can use it as a halter and lounge them in it. Another bonus is that it is very low maintenance. I clean with warm water twice a week and it doesn't crack or stretch. |

I would like to use a hackamore on Cassidy just because I think the bit is irritating her teeth too much. otherwise, I ride everyone in rope halter a with barrel rein. Works well, but I have to use a bit if we are doing serious work, they don't listen or behave otherwise. |
