Kittens not eating...

So I have two kittens, a few weeks apart, not siblings, who have been doing well together. But all of a sudden, they're both eating less. One is still picking at their food and the other is absolutely refusing....I can't get to a vet until Thursday, so I was just wondering if there was anyone here who could offer me some advice on getting them to eat? Or ideas on why they won't?

I don't know if you have access to this, but a few years back our vet reccomended a supplement I think called nutrical when my dad's cat got really sick. you can find it online here: https://www.chewy.com/tomlyn-nutri-cal-high-calorie/dp/57188?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=f&utm_content=Tomlyn&utm_term=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm5i-qIfg5QIVFWyGCh0-RQ18EAQYASABEgKrkvD_BwE

It is calorie/nutrient dense (a little goes a LONG way) and can keep kitties going in the mean time before you can get to a vet.  I would definitely reccomend maybe calling around and seeing if anyone has it in stock if that's a possibility.  Although cats are amazingly resilient creatures, it can get pretty dangerous if cats go without any eating - even a few bites or drinks of something is far better than nothing at all.

Best of luck and warm wishes to you and your kitties < 3

Try adding goats milk...

Ive had several kittens and all have thrived on kitten food with the goats milk added and soaked in.

My cat went through a period where she decided to hunger strike and my vet was able to prescribe her something called Boost, which I gave to her through a little syringe.  Makes sure they get some viatmins and nutrients as they're on the mend.  Not sure if it's available to kittens but worth asking about for sure.  Good luck!!

Thank you everybody (: they are given a mixture of wet food and dry food, dry food is usually left out all day for them. They just all of the sudden haven't wanted either one

I got one eating with the chicken broth but the younger one just isn't doing so great. She has nibbled a little bit and she's still drinking water. I'll check out some of the other suggestions you guys made too. Thanks!

So cats can also choose not to eat if they don't like their food dish. Their whiskers are extremely sensitive and if the food dish is too small in diameter and their whiskers constantly brush the walls/rim of of the dish, it can become very irritating and stop them from eating. I read it in an article years ago and just kinda filed it away, and then my cats stopped eating when we got new dishes for that exact reason.

Try feeding them on flat plates - although you'll probably have to watch them while they eat and keep scooping the food away from the edges of the plate. And if that works, then look for food dishes that are wide and/or have low rims ^^

Hey Yama! Two more days til the appointment, I have been counting down the days with you. How are they doing? Did the paper plate make any difference?

Hey Con!

The paper plate seemed to help a little bit! They're both just nibbling, but the food gets all eaten! I'm wondering if maybe they ate something around the house somewhere that wasn't good for them (or maybe it was the mouse that got caught). I'll see how they do tonight.

Just realized it was Friday, and I have not seen you on since like Tuesday/Wednesday. How are the babies doing?

Hey con, and everyone!

So they went to the vet and when we were talking about possible reasons they might not be eating, I mentioned that they had caught and essentially picked at and eaten a mouse. A mouse that has been living in my kitchen cabinets for who knows how long. So, the cause was most likely that so I just was to monitor them and make sure they at least kept snacking and drinking water. As of this past Wednesday, they are eating and drinking again like normal, and they'll be going back to the vet soon to get up to date on all their shots!

I appreciate everyone's concern and help, I love the community here!
