What are you making and/or eating? (Or what did you make/eat for those of you who celebrated last month in Canada?)

I'm only cooking for us at home, but I'm making our usuals pretty much, just less of everything. We will have a lot of leftovers for the week which is perfect. Here's what I'm making:

Turkey

Ham

Sweet potato casserole

Cheesy potatoes

Baked beans

Roasted brussels sprouts

Jalapeno poppers: https://sizzlingmess.com/2017/12/11/pepper-bombs/

Stuffed mushrooms

Marinated onions: https://nocrumbsleft.net/2017/03/18/marinated-red-onions/

Mashed potatoes

Gravy

Cranberry sauce

Caramel apple cobbler

This year we opted not to try to visit our families on thanksgiving (my mom and dad hate each other, his family is just as bad so it is like 5 different visits to 5 different houses, sometimes more, just to keep the peace) - so we are staying home for a stress free dinner just us and the kids.

I am making a Honey glaze spiral ham, we aren't big on turkey so I bought a honey glazed half of a turkey break (last time I cooked for just us [us being me and my husband] a few years back we ended up wasting soooo much turkey from a full one - only I ate it back then though). For the sides I am making green bean casserole, homemade mashed potatoes, sweet rolls, cream corned, and deviled eggs. For dessert we are going to have a homemade cake and a hersheys chocolate pie.

We pretty much have leftovers for lunch for a week after as well - it's pretty awesome. I am actually, for the first time in a long time, looking forward to a nice, peaceful, calm, stressless Thanksgiving this year.

I'm going to my dad's..... not sure what he's making, but I'm bringing green bean casserole and a whipped orange jello. Hopefully it goes okay, since they scheduled it during my son's naptime. -eye roll-

We are just cooking this year with my immediate family as well - 2 of my brothers, my parents, and me.

We're making turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, scalloped corn, rolls, giftas (a scandinavian version of cranberry sauce....made with layers of cranberries, soda crackers, and whipped cream), and homemade pumpkin and pecan pie for dessert!!

I have Thanksgiving with both mine and my partner's family this year, so I'm planning on gaining a couple pounds, lol.

Mike's family usually has:

Smoked turkey (sometimes also chicken wings), homemade mashed potatoes & gravy, stuffing, chicken & noodles, corn, mac & cheese, green bean casserole, some type of cold macaroni salad, various dips & snack appetizers, oreo fluff salad, hawaiian rolls, a store-bought pumpkin pie, and homemade pumpkin bars and cookies for dessert

My family usually has:

Smoked turkey & ham (my grandpa is spoiled and doesn't like turkey), homemade mashed potatoes & gravy, homemade stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, corn casserole (which idk how to explain but its amazing), cranberry sauce, homemade crescent rolls, little smokies, various cracker/dip appetizers, cold cherry salad, and homemade pumpkin and pecan pies for dessert.

I am equally excited for both! I'm very thankful that Mike and I's families get together every year. We all get along (for the most part) so it's always a good time. My side of the family has always loved baking and cooking so we do pretty much everything from scratch. I'm in charge of the homemade crescent rolls this year for the first time, which I guess is a new rite of passage? You can catch me laughing in stretchy leggings for the rest of the holiday season!

Usually the day or two after Thanksgiving, my other relatives come to visit; which is usually pretty stressful and takes away from the holiday season. However, given the drama I've had with them over the past 3 - 4 months, we are opting out of that visit this year. This will definitely be a much-needed and peaceful holiday for us in a long while.

In our typical tradition, we have two big meals than just one: a lunch course and a dinner course. Our lunch menu is: Rueben Sliders, devilled eggs, chips and dip, and cheese and crackers. We sometimes eat pickles or olives with this, but this time it's strictly with dinner.

Our dinner this year will be: Turkey, greenbean cassarole, homemade stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and Kings Hawaiian rolls. Our Dessert will be a Boston Crème & Pumpkin pie.

We planned on having a few couples over for Thanksgiving, but I think it will just be my mom, dad, brother, and I. We are having deep fried turkey, sausage, oyster, and cornbread stuffing, the obligatory cranberry sauce, some green vegetable, gravy, and some roast veggies. I'm debating whether I want a baked sweet potato with my faire or not. Then we have amazing chocolate cake and ice cream along with pumpkin pie for dessert.

We hosted a traditional Thanksgiving today for our close friends and family and had a charcuterie board for appetizers, 2 deep fried turkeys (one cajun, one idk what he used), macaroni and cheese, vegan mac & cheese (I didn't try it lol), cornbread stuffing, broccoli/corn casserole, mashed potatoes, salad, hawaiian rolls, pecan pie, and a vegan chocolate cake (one of my friends's husband is vegan, but the cake was to die for!).

For Thanksgiving we are headed up to my mom's house Wednesday at the crackle, which is about a 9 hour car trip away D:

My mom is pescatarian, so we probably will have some sort of fish en papillote with her selection of veggies, oyster stuffing, a vegetarian stuffing, cranberry sauce, some kind of sweet potato, brussel sprouts, and apple crisp.  Mom's menu is a little random, but it's my human's first Thanksgiving away from his family (mom moved away a year ago), so she's trying to incorporate a little bit of all the things (he hates pumpkin pie, so that's why we're having apple crisp).  We're also tactfully trying to get her to switch brussel sprouts to collard greens haha.
