Got Generations? List Them!

This came up in chat when I was talking to others about our lines/generations we had either started or had increased. When we were talking, I brought up the question, "How do you number your generations?". I was told by a couple players it more so by preference - For example, foundation horses (Store x Store) are the first generation, their offspring are the second generation, the second generations' offspring is the third generation, etc. I am wondering if this is true or is it really by preference.

So what do you all think? Do you list them a different way or is no way really 'the right way', when breeding?

I consider my store dogs my first generation, their offspring will be second.

I do it like they do in genetics. My store/foundation animals are f0, their offspring are f1, theirs are f2...

Stores are 1st gen, offspring are 2nd gen. That's probably why my retirement account has so many animals in the 1st Gen divider :P

Stores are 1st gen for me...their offspring are 2nd....their offspring are 3rd...etc etc If I breed a store to a lined animal I go by the longest lines; so breeding a store to a 4th generation horse or dog their baby will be 5th generation, not 2nd.

I keep track of my lines exactly how Lemo does. ☺  Great minds think alike!

Addy - I think you're way actually is what I was thinking. So the stores are just "Foundation", they're not 1st or second in any case but the babies (Of said foundation) are the 1st generation. Then theirs is and so on. Seeing as everyone has a different way, I'm going to agree that this is totally a preference thing. However I think your way is easier to work with! :)
