Official Discord has launched! Join the HP Prism server here! Unlock the Prism Breeder role automatically by posting a Breeder form in the Breeder-List channel! Keep up to date with any program changes or exciting news as it happens, instead of waiting until I finally remember to post something here. It's still pretty fresh, so don't hesitate to throw out suggestions in the Suggestions channel!

oh this is so exciting! are you open to breeds that have less genetic diversity (like Sorraia's for example) to still add them in? Or are you looking for breeds that have wider options?

Any equine breed is welcome to join in the program! How you use Prism and what breeds you use it for are totally up to you as the player :D It's not even necessary to technically sign up, I'm just requesting sign ups for the beta period so I can keep an eye on the genes and see how it's working for multiple players!

I requested sign ups for Sorraia's, and then started Kiamanawa's on here as well for funsies for a Prism Challenge. I absolutely adore this so thank you so so much for this!

I also had another idea, would you be up to implementing a random height generator as well? Not sure how many people would be interested, or how difficult that would be- but we have a height box I never use. And it would be interesting to implement that with genetics if it were possible!

I agree with Alyphira on the random height!! Maybe even something specific like "pony, standard, and draft" selections? So no one ends up with a 13.0hh Clydesdale or 18.3hh Shetland xD 

That would probably be pretty easy to input on any standard RNG.

Updates - as of December 18, 2020

A new tool has been added to help you understand what genes apply to what color - check out the Color Lookup tool! If you have a color in mind - like a Silver Bucksin Tobiano - you can input that color, and the tool will display the genes needed to achieve it! This tool is helpful for those who would take on a Line Color Challenge or are interested in using the Gene Influencing option with the Prism Generator.

Somatic mutations are still in the works! Flaxen and Sabino are also coming soon to the program! Sabino will require some work, as there's a very fuzzy line between the actual gene and the color - Prism will need to write its own rules for this gene to make it friendly for everyone!

This is awesome! but it still baffles me. I barely understood genetics with pea plants and Gregor Mendel and that was, what, middle school?? It's been awhile, to say the least. lol

Thank you! I plan on writing a little guide on how genetics work, to give a little overview :D I've also been toying with the idea of maybe writing a Prism Lite version - that would basically just take the color from both parents and create one for the foal, without requiring players to mess with genetics at all unless they wanted to. It would be a heavier program to write, but I'd love to get more people interested in coloring their HP horses!

Would Prism Lite be a thing people would be interested in?

I'm happy to present Prism Lite!

Prism Lite is a much simpler version of the full Prism program and does all the genetic work for you. To give your foundation horses a color, just select a color type - normal, paint, appaloosa, or pintaloosa - and hit "Generate!" The program will give you a color for your horse!

When it comes time to breed, use the Lite Breeding Prism to select the parents' colors and hit "Breed!" The program will take both of those colors into account and produce a new color for the foal!

This program is very genetically accurate - nearly as much as the full version. It generates a full genetic profile for each parent based on the color you input, and then combines both parents' genes to create a new genetic profile for the foal. It then goes back over those genes and simply tells you the color those genes create! The main difference between using the full version and using this one is that the genetics may not track through a line (basically, the Lite version can't account for gene carriers). However, they are fully accurate based on the immediate parents!

Over 2.5 years since the last update, I come to you with more news!

The official HP Prism Discord has launched! Join the server to get more frequent updates, as well as engage in a community specifically geared towards equine color genetics! It's still pretty fresh, so feel free to drop any suggestions you might have in the Suggestions channel.

Additionally, I am in the process of overhauling the program! The website is under construction, and the generator will receive a nice tune-up with some useful quality-of-life tools added in (like more control over including/excluding genes), as well as a future Breed Preset option!

The most exciting part of this overhaul process is that we finally have our own domain name: hpprism.com! Much easier to remember, I hope! However, until I've finished building the website and transferred the generators over, please keep heading to prismhp.neocities.org for all your Prism functions. An update will be posted here and in the Discord when the transfer is complete (or at the very least, functional)!

I'm also going to be reworking the Appaloosa genes. Even a couple years ago, there was much less information available about how these genes worked than there is today, and I've been able to take all the new knowledge and plan for a better, more accurate Appaloosa genotype. The Apollon Society Knabstruppers I have available on my page will reflect the new system.
