Hey everyone!

Long time no post. So I wanted to share news with you all... which is actually old news... but new news to everyone on here haha! We got a Working German Shephered! She's 100% working bloodlines and absolutely a doll. We brough her home last July and she's been an absolute gem and fit right into our family.

We went to the breeders farm, he had cattle along with all these wonderful WGS dogs. Ivy (1.5 yrs at the time) got out and the dogs came up to great her. She wasn't really into it to say the least, until Sammy came by. Now back story on Sammy is she was the breeders favourite up and coming breeding female. She's got a wonderfully easy going and mild temperment and very obedient. Anyways, it started to rain so I put Ivy in the car and fed her some snacks... all the while Sammy lay right beside the door and would not leave the side of the car.

Now the breeder was trying to sell us a young pup, which we weren't entirely keen on, we wanted a young dog that had gotten past the wonderful chewing stage. ;) We inquired about the yound 2.5 year old female. The older gentlemen made note that he's never seen her do that with anyone and that this dog was very special to him. However, being that she took so well to our little Ivy and that we had a farm which she could have space to roam and be a dog he'd let her go. So we worked out a price and ensured that we would be keeping him posted with photos and such of her fitting into our family.

Long story short we've had Sammy for just under a year and she's the most wonderful dog. She adores our little Ivy and is her little protector. There isn't a place that Ivy goes that Sammy isn't by her side keeping a watchful eye over her. I've always wanted a German Shephered dog, and that wish finally became a reality. We couldn't be more thrilled with her.

Also, what does "Working" mean? Is she a guard dog?

I grew up with my parents professionally training and breeding German shepherds for schutzhund. They truly are the best dog breed for a multitude of reasons and it makes me so beyond happy to hear your story of your stunning dog. Sammy is absolutely beautiful and their bond is beyond perfect!

@Kuwait - It's just different strains of the breed. They went a different direction which gave them different physical traits and attributes even though they are the same "breed" so to speak. Here is an article that I found that might help explain it better than I can. https://www.allshepherd.com/working-lines-german-shepherd-vs-show-lines/

@Tragedy - Ohhhhhh really! What an absolutely amazing experience that must have been! They really are an amazing breed of dog. I absolutely adore our Sammy. She's a great family dog but feirce enough looking that we don't get anybody snooping in our yard. She's definitely got a patrol that she does and is very protective of her "territory" towards anyone that isn't familiar... which is a good thing! We have a lot of theft in our area, so having someone on patrol isn't hurting our feelings haha. Awe yes! We couldn't have picked a better dog for Ivy to grow up with... or should I say Sammy couldn't have picked a better kid to grow old with. ;)

Ahh! Yeah, I've seen those before. The show ones in the image of silhouettes look awful with their bodies sloping way down like that. They're practically dragging their hind ends along the ground. :(
The working ones look way better.
