Has anyone here ever used Invisible Fence before? The vet I work for has it and was telling a client about it which got me thinking. It might be something good to invest in for Lucky so he can spend more time outside and actually able to run around. We're not allowed to put up a regular fence so it seems like the next best thing. It would also be nice to use the discs they offer to keep him away from the little dogs' bowls, he's always trying to sneak some kibbles from them.

I use it with buddy and it takes a smart dog to use it. My friends with shih tzus and beagles couldn't use it because their dogs would just run through them and continue getting shocked because they didn't comprehend they had to run back to the base, no matter how much they were trained. Buddy hears the beeping and doesnt cross it, but he's smart enough to know when his battery is low and then he would make a break for it.

Mostly, if you train them and keep the batteries fresh, you're good.

I used one with both dogs I've had in my lifetime. Never had a problem with it. The dogs learn to hear the beep and not go any further or they get shocked. And it's completely humane and all of that such.

I think Lucky would be able to catch on, I think haha. He just acts like he needs that constant reminder of the beeping to follow the rules. He's always been the kind to misbehave if he thinks he won't get caught.

Overall, now one's had much of a negative experience with it though?

I was tempted to try this before we got our proper fence done. I think Astro would have caught on but I had a feeling it just wouldn't get through to the Labs, Chloe especially lol

My boss has a standard poodle, a chocolate lab and a maltese, the poodle and the maltese are the worse about testing it. Humphry (maltese) knows exactly when his battery is getting low or dead and takes advantage of it if he can. Candy (poodle) tried testing it a few times, tried to run through too but it's keep her in check. Skeeter (lab) just follows the rules haha, she does know when the inside discs are moved away from the trashcans though. I guess they're all really smart about watching where the discs are moved to.

I haven't used one with discs.  We have the underground wire one, took maybe four-five hours to install.  Lucky used to break through quite a bit, so we kept having to bump up the power.  With a set at a ten he only breaks through once in a blue moon (he just doesn't mind taking the shock from time to time).  Lucky is a Labrador.  XD

Our parents use one with their Lab, and it works awesome.  Their fence has been down for the past year, and she still knows where the boundary is and will not go past it.

I have heard of the fence not working well for stubborn breeds (Pitties, etc.) or running breeds (esp. Greyhounds).  If a dog runs incredibly fast, they'll simply miss the warning beep and blow through the fence.  Stubborn dogs will just take the bite, which is what Lucky does from time to time.  For the most, our fence does give us peace of mind, though.  Lucky has 1/2 acre to run around in, and we just keep an eye on him while he is outside - which everyone should do anyhow.

Lucky is a good name XD /biased

I think I'm going to call and set up a consult, it's free and is no obligation so might as well try it out.

We use the one with the radius, so it really is invisible. I had to walk it with him and show him where it beeped and where it didn't. He doesn't even test it except when the neighbors stray dogs come on the property or when he was younger, squirrels.
