So apparently a good part of having plants (which I am obsessed with) is fishtank water.
...something about fish poop and fertilizer and such.

Ahem, anybody here have fish that could give a fish newbie any tips?
I'm thinking a small tank and something hard to kills since fish are really not my thing.

I have a 20gallon tank filled with Platys and tetras and I always dump the water on this one hydrangea bush because it's closest to my door haha  It's triple the size of the other hydrangea.   The hardest part of having a tank is the water changes, I sometimes forget to do them on my busy week's and then all my platys are all upset with me D:

I also have a 10gal with one catfish in it (IDK WHAT TO DO WITH IT) I have a bunch of pothos plants in it and I never do anything with it besides fill it with water or when I see the fish I feed it.

I guess it depends on what you want.  I love my 10gal because it's low maintence, I'm always fighting with my 20gal, but love the fish that are in it.

I probably didn't help you at all, but I love platys, i love the colors and that they multiple like rats.

Are platys and tetra easy care though?

What size tank are you wanting?

Mollies, platies, danios, and tetras are generally small beginner fish.  They're also all schooling fish so a group of at least 6 is needed.  We have a 60 gallon tank and have had all of them in there at one point or another but now we just have a school of Black skirt tetras and 2 serpae tetras.

As for tips: research before you get fish!  Make sure the tank is fully cycled before adding fish and learn how to test the water and understand what the water parameters mean.

I bought a book on fish care for beginners (hehehe) and my friend is giving me her 10 gallon tank :)

I'ts looking more and more like tetras are the go to for simple beginner fish.

I kept my friend's beta fish alive while she was on vacation a couple of times, but other than that I know pretty close to zilch about caring for fishies! xD

Best of luck! :D
