So I thought I'd make a completely random post! So what do you guys ride, English or Western, or both? I really want to try Western but living in the UK and being a slightly heavier rider it's quite difficult to find somewhere to try it out :( I ride twice a week at a local riding school doing English seems I sold my horsey a couple of years ago >.< But what do you think? Should I pay a lot of money to try Western, even if it's just a few times? ;D How different is it to English? Should I just get it for the experience? :D |

I think you should do what makes you happy! xD If you want to try Western, I say go for it! You may end up really liking it and sticking with it.My heart, however, lies with English. |

I've ALWAYS ridden English, for like... years! I just want to hear views about Western and see've it's worth £108 for a day in the saddle :P (And that's before the cost of travelling there too D;) And this was supposed to be posted from my main account xD |

I've only ever ridden western but I've always wanted to try English really bad so I guess it's whatever you don't usually do. lol I do like riding western. It's more chill I think. |

Yeah, I've heard it's a lot more relaxed compared to English :3 |

It's definitely that! I've tried my hand at Western riding (barrel racing and a little WP, in particular) and it just wasn't my cup of tea. Plus... all that bling x.x |

I've done both, I started with Saddleseat and then moved to hunter/jumper and fox hunting which is where my heart really lies.I dress like I ride western though (except when Im riding English, Im just talking about every day life), and I do when we go out on trails or something sometimes. I've always wanted to try barrels and I have a very expensive barrel saddle. And I think Brooks will be a western horse (but we'll see).Personally I think English gives better balance and equitation in general if you start there, and western saddles are incredibly hard, square, and uncomfortable. I mean, my stock saddle is like riding in a wooden saddle, whereas my cheap huntseat saddle is like riding on a form fitting pillow. My barrel saddle though is very comfortable, haha.I actually rode exclusively bareback for the longest time, haha. So maybe western saddles are just too much saddle for me. I don't know. |

Its easier to teach an English rider how to go Western then it is to test a Western Rider English.... I rode western a couple times before I finally got some English lessons and they could tell I was more Western. Its up to you really. |

I started with English and moved to Western and I LOVE WESTERN! Lol. Its more fun and not as stressful as english in my opinion and I love western saddles better then english . |

I think in English, it requires a lot more balance than Western, which has a more supportive seat. But with Western, like someone said, it's really relaxing and easy, to be honest. I ride strictly western. Nothing showy, just some trail riding and riding out in a pasture for fun. I've wanted to try English, but I sat in an English saddle one time and was like, nope, not happenin'. lol. |

This thread is making me think I should move to the UK with a few western saddles. hahaMostly I rode bareback although stylistically english. I hate saddles. When I started riding when I was 7 I took dressage lessons with a real stickler for balance who was keen on revoking your stirrups if she thought you were relying on them to heavily. I did do a fair share of western gaming just because my horse really liked it. He's a weirdo. Mostly though I always did everything bareback unless I was showing, jumping, barrels, wutever. |

I ride both and both have their perks. I like the feel of the English saddle, but the western is so relaxed, I think I like bareback most though ;) |
