October's Player of the Month!

Happy Autumn Everyone!
Finally cooler weather is on it's way and hopefully you live where the trees are starting to change colors!
If not, we hope you share pictures of the pretty colors so the rest of us can see, haha!

Also, thank you to everyone who's filled out our Fall Survey so far!

......HP Questions......
1. How did you first learn about us?
After quitting Horseland, I moved over to SpiffyHorse (which honestly feels like a weird fever dream...are there any other former Spiffy players??) and then found out about HP.

2. What is your favorite thing about HP?
The community for sure. The gameplay is great of course, but it would be nothing without the incredible staff and players!

3. How long have you been playing for?
I think my account is around 10 years old, but I took a nice long 5 year break while I was at college. Since restarting, I've been playing actively for...almost a year now? Time is weird right now.

4. How did you come up with your player name?
I used to go by Savvy, but that name didn't really fit me anymore. My new name is after my dog, Jax! He's truly the love of my life.

5. What is your favorite breed of horse or dog to train?
Gotta go with my Friesians. I'm obsessed with them IRL.

6. What caused you to pick the breed(s) you train and breed?
I'm really into medieval literature (I almost majored in medieval studies) and nothing says medieval to me quite like Friesians. It's widely believed that they were a popular breed used as war horses because they could handle the weight of a knight in armor. Eventually heavier breeds were needed, but there's something magical about a knight on a midnight black Friesian that has me swooning.

7. How do you come up with names for your animals?
My main line is named after various spirits and cocktails. I was a bartender for a while and I'm really into mixology. My second line is based on Harry Potter. Slytherins unite!

8. What are your current goals on HP?
I really want to train the highest pointed Friesian on the game, and eventually get one of my animals on the top 25 all time list.

9. Do you have a favorite animal? (It can be your own or another player’s you admire!)
I entered the mascot contest for the first time this year with The Alchemist and I'm so proud of her that she'll probably be my favorite animal for a while.

10. Who’s your go-to graphic artist or coder? Are there any services you offer?
Definitely Mango for coding! And for graphics, Amberellie and Alle! I usually offer my graphics services, but they're closed indefinitely while I sort out my mental health :)

11. What is your favorite Site-Wide yearly event?
All the Christmas activities omg. By far my favorite!!

12. What other contests or activities do you usually participate in?
I love chat parties and bingo nights! Honestly any kind of game that gets a bunch of people together to chat and have fun.

13. Do you have any training or breeding tips to share?
Oh gosh I'm only on my third gen and still working out kinks, so idk if I'd be the best at advice haha. I guess my main takeaway is: I was skeptical about private shows for a while mainly because I'm lazy, but after raising a couple of animals primarily in private shows it made a big difference. So if you're on the fence about private shows, it's worth the extra effort!!

14. Which seasonal layout art is your favorite?
Spring! Pink is the way to my heart.

15. If you could change one thing about HP, what would it be and why?
Nothing at all. Love it as is :)

......Real Life & Random Questions......
1. Where are you from?
I was raised in Southern Mississippi but I now live in Nashville, Tennessee, and I LOVE it!

2. What do you do for work?
I'm an in-house graphic designer for a creative firm that works with clients around the globe. My favorite client is housed in London. It's really cool!

3. Do you own any horses or dogs?
I've always wanted a horse, but I'm a city boi at heart so I don't think it'll ever happen. I have one dog, though!

4. Do you have any other types of pets at home?
I also have a cat and a little betta fish.

5. What are your favorite breeds of horse and dog?
I love all heavy drafts and "baroque" breeds. My dream dog is my own of course (he's a mega mutt, no clue what breed) plus a mini Aussie. They're so cute!!

6. Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they?
I'm big into backpacking, hiking, climbing, basically any outdoor activity. Also baking sourdough and fermenting foods.

7. What’s your favorite color?
Turquoise

8. What’s your favorite Holiday or Month?
October baby!! Halloween, plus it's my birth month! I was born on October, Friday the 13th :D

9. Do you have a favorite vacation spot? If so, what or where is it?
California! Some of the best backpacking and hiking in the country. It breaks my heart that it's on fire.

10. Do you have any special talents? If so, what are they?
Non-serious talent: I can tie a cherry stem with my tongue. Serious talent: I'm a decent oil painter.

11. If you could own any breed of horse, what would it be and why?
I've always wanted an off-track TB. Back when I rode competitively, I rode the sweetest, most lovely TB named George.

12. If you could own any breed of dog, what would it be and why?
An aussie! They're SO cute and so smart.

13. If you could meet any celebrity, who would it be and why?
I've been lucky enough to meet a couple of my favorite celebrities over the years (Cameron Esposito, Abbi Jacobson, Peppermint the Drag Queen) but I really, really want to meet Tegan and Sara one day. They've done so much for me through their music and for the LGBTQIA community at large with their activism.

14. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
My great grandfather on my dad's side is from Cuba and my great grandparents on my mom's side are from Greece. I really want to go to both places one day to learn more about my heritage.

15. What would be your dream job?
I want to be a political designer. So much goes into designs for campaigns, it would be a dream to work with a candidate I really believe in to make a difference.

16. What would be your dream meal of choice?
I want to go to Japan to eat real sushi *drool*. Or go to northern Thailand, I freaking love northern Thai food and want to experience it right there, you know? Or! I want to go to Italy for wine and cheese. Basic, I know haha.

17. What is the top thing on your Bucket List?
I want to go backpacking in Patagonia. I was supposed to go this year but...you know...pandemic or whatever...

18. What talent do you wish you had?
I wish I could sing, oh my goodness. I am completely tone-deaf.

19. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
I like weird flavors. I had one once that was bourbon and caramel. Freaking delicious.

20. What is something you fear?
Heights. Which makes climbing an adventure.

21. What’s the funniest joke you heard recently?
I invented a new word: Plagiarism!

23. Any good books or comics that you’ve read recently?
I just finished The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and Home Before Dark by Riley Sager. I recommend both!!

24. Any good movies or shows you’ve seen lately?
I've been watching Steven Universe on repeat lately. It's...a problem lol. Everyone should watch it though, it's a great story with incredible, diverse characters!

25. What is your go-to show to stream? (Via Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.)
Hulu currently because I'm binging Sailor Moon again.
