Sawadee ka (Hello)!

The Thai Pony or Thai Country Bred is a native horse of Thailand and while they are thought to come from Mongolian and Ancient Chinese stock, their exact origins are a mystery (research over the years has pointed to Przewalski's horses as well). These animals have been used by the local people for transporting tea leaves & fruit from mountainous areas like the Thai Highlands (foothills of the Himalayas) for many years (Himalayan Mountain Horses/Ponies are likely from the same stock, if not virtually identical [their locations being primarily in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal).

There are several organizations working to preserve the breed and campaign for the welfare of Thai Ponies (and horses and ponies residing in Thailand in general):
