So... The dogs chased a cat INTO our garage today. Who knows how long he's been camping out in there it's kinda... scary. In our garage.

Went outside to go see him and he trotted up immediately when I did that universal cat kissy noise. XD Was more than happy to be clumsily picked out of a box kite and carried out to the patio. All meows and purrs and head butts. And very, very hungry.

Giving him a once over:

- Adult black male domestic shorthair. No markings. Green eyes. Slightly bent ear tip on one ear.
- No sign of fleas. No flea dirt, no actual fleas, no itching in the couple hours I was outside with him.
- No sign of ear mites or an infection.
- No wounds or even scabbing.
- No tumors or cysts that I can feel.
- No discharge around the eyes or nose.
- No trouble breathing, wheezing, coughing, etc.
- No sore spots.
- Good weight. Muscular. Though worms are probably a given.
- Not declawed.
- Decent fur. Dirty and full of dandruff but thick and no bald spots.
- Some broken teeth, possibly a missing one. He wasn't too keen on me being in his MOUTH.
- Minor scarring around the face and neck. Probably from fighting with neighborhood cats.
- ... He's intact. *sigh*

I was outside with him poking and prodding him for HOURS. back combing his fur looking for fleas and wounds, in his ears, in his mouth, blah blah blah. Not a single sign of aggression the whole time. Just totally chill and non stop affection.

Now Brian (my boyfriend's dad, who we live with) has said we CAN'T keep him... and then said if the sun room was cleaned out (we have plans to re-do the sun room and clean it. Because his senior dog has had so many accidents in there that... well. Now all the animals do.)... and then said if it was a different time... and then muttered about 'well he could be an outdoor cat'... and then started giving us the locations and numbers of local vets and the vaccination events he knows of from doing foster work.

So needless to say, we can keep him. Maybe not INSIDE (grudgingly) until we move out at the end of the year, but we can keep him.

My friend who's a vet tech is going to come over tomorrow and give him a more professional quick lookover. After the holiday we're going to make an appointment at one of the vets Brian referred us to so we can check for a microchip and get blood work done. If he comes back negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV, we're getting him vaccinated and fixed at the humane society. If not... he'll stay quarantined in the garage until we can find a rescue that can take on a FL or FIV cat. I SINCERELY DOUBT he's microchipped or has... recent owners. Brian's seen this cat trying to break into people's houses for weeks around here. Haven't seen a single poster. Plus he's not even FIXED. (biggest pet peeve ever)

Galahad flipped OUT (like... hissed and growled after smelling my clothes), but I'm sure once we get the guy fixed that'll be much easier to sort out. He and Brian's dogs don't seem to care too much about each other.

If he comes back clean and everything. His name shall be Mordred and he shall have a forever home. :D

THAT'S WHAT I SAID!

Β

As soon as I realized he's probably... healthier than my cat actually (Galahad is kinda ancient. Deaf. And is allergic to EVERYTHING.) I was all "I MUST CLAIM HIM."

He is just adorable! Let us know what you name the pretty boy! Kudos to you for getting him seen by a vet and neutered so quickly!Β

Funny story. When I was a really little girl I had a black kitten named Bagheera that ran away. My mom immediately started joking that I was getting my black cat back and that it was fate.Β

Β

His name is Mordred. :D that way both of my cats are named after Knights of the Round (OK Mordred wasnt TECHNICALLY but whatever). Galahad was the son of Sir Lancelot, Mordred is the son of King Arthur.

Β

And I wasn't expecting to get him in so quickly! But the Michigan humane society has it pretty together! I can't allow him inside if he's intact and without knowing his FeLV/FIV status between my elderly indoor cat and the two dogs. I gave him a flea treatment yesterday along with my cat and both the dogs, but I'm going to wait until after surgery to see if he has worms before I go feeding him basically pesticides. We think he might have lucked out there too thanks to our brutal winter...Β

Update!

Β

Mordred's neuter went well! They also removed the broken tooth and microchipped him while he was out, and the vet thinks he's only about a year old. He tested negative for FeLV/FIV and worms, no fleas, bloodwork came back looking clean, and his only problem is a minor heart murmur! HE GETS HIS FOREVER HOME! His coat's improved significantly in just a week of regular feeding of high quality cat food (Galahad has all of the food allergies forever so we keep the natural/limited ingredient stuff on hand). It's glossier and softer every day!
He's been nothing but an angel since being taken inside. Lets the dogs come up and sniff him as much as they want. Just stands there quietly while Galahad (my other cat) flips out and hisses at him. The only behavioral problem he has is that he's a little PIG and tries to steal everyone's food. Today was spent babysitting him all day shooing him out of food bowls until he learns that the dog food isn't his, our food isn't his, and Galahad's food isn't his. Other than that he uses the litterbox and his scratching post like a pro! Galahad's progressed from being so stressed out that he was hissing at us if we smelled like Mordred and not eating to... hissing occasionally if Mordred gets super close but otherwise being okay with being in the same room.
Safe to say, he's made himself right at home!
