Birb update time!

So I do still have Echo but he's out in the aviary with my Corella and he's much, much happier out there. He's not a people birb and he enjoys the company of other birbs so it made sense to give him what he wants and make him happy!
I also have my lil girl, Ellie, who is super bonded to Echo and will be joining him out in the aviary once she is more confident at flying. They will most likely make me some pretty babies in the future!

I haven't raised a baby since Teddy and I was missing it so much. I posted an ad on my local birb site looking for a baby to raise. Would you believe my luck, the same guy that I bought Sam from in 2016 texted me and said he had a 6 week old that he'd be willing to sell to me unweaned because he knows I am experienced and good at it.

He sent me the photo and I absolutely melted. I actually cried a little, because he looked SO much like Sam at that age and it hit me kind of hard. Words cannot explain how much I loved that bird and I haven't gotten over losing him yet. I probably won't ever, but I hope that wherever he is, he's being looked after well and spoiled as he should be.

Anyway we had arranged for the exchange on Friday or Saturday but due to Covid lockdown and restrictions (we are in Sydney, Australia) we had to choose a meeting location that was 10km or less from each of our homes. We found the perfect spot but as of tonight I will be unable to travel more than 5km from my house so we moved the exchange up to today! 

This is my lil boy. He doesn't have a name yet, I haven't stumbled across the perfect name as yet like I did with Sam so I am open to suggestions lol. I like short, easy to say names (max and sam have already been used)

He's only 8 weeks old and he's flying already. Over achiever lmao

I decided on Jet, because he's like a jumbo jet with those enormous wings lol!

He's 13 weeks old now, and he should be close to weaning by now, but he fledged (learned to fly) at 7.5 weeks which is extremely early for Eclectus, with the average fledging age being around 10-11 weeks. So as expected, his weaning has regressed and he is taking more formula so he's back on 3 feeds a day for now (he should only be on one lol) but he's eating a TON throughout the day and starting to refuse his bedtime feed. Hopefully soon he'll wean completely and i'll be free! lmao.

He also goes outside regularly now, on the harness. He doesn't enjoy me putting it on him, but he LOVES going outside and flying around! I don't have any photos or videos of him flying because i'm always on my own with him and it's too hard to do lmao. But here are some photos of him from the first time I took him outside!

He is so gorgeous! Those colors are VIBRANT. I'm in love! Jet seems like a very fitting name. Keep more updates coming. I'm hooked. ♥

This little shit owns my entire heart lol. He is STILL on formula even though he's four and a half months old LOL. He's eating a lot less in his morning feed so we'll be dropping that soon, but I may be giving him a bed time feed for quite some time. Oh well, he's cute so it's okay.

Still hasn't weaned completely.. He's 6 months old and still has a feed when he gets up lmao. But I think that's just a habit more than anything so i'm slowly decreasing the amount I give him so hopefully soon he'll just stop wanting it lol

I bought him a new cage, since he didn't actually have one, he's been free-range the entire time but he's a little trouble maker and can't be trusted to be left unsupervised lmao. I actually bought him two new cages, one for inside and one for outside so I don't have to move an entire cage outside when I want him out there during the day on nice days.

He's such a good boy though. He's so playful. He loves playing with toys on the floor. He's also very trusting with me, he let me hold him in my hand on his back the other day, which is a pretty big deal for most birds. I could never do it with Sam, I tried to train him into it but he just wouldn't have it lmao.
