How Much Is Too Much?

Hiiiiiii friends! So, I'm currently brainstorming my future progeny and I wanted to ask, like, what is etiquette here for breeding? How many foals do folks typically produce from a single pairing? And, what is the uppermost limit on number of offspring? I haven't seen any more than 1-2 foals per pairing, and I'm curious if there are frowned upon numbers for breeding...

And, along that same line, what is the deal with inbreeding/line breeding? Any community feedfback on that? I wouldn't want to cross my mares with their direct lines/siblings, but I'm curious if it would not be kosher to have some repeated lines in the pedigree.

All just a general check in on personal playstyles. I appreciate your feedback in advance!

I'm the same as Lafitte. Players used to breed backups at 13 (for dogs) and 18 (for horses) due to the risk of offspring dying. That was removed from the game a long time ago, so now (unless it's a project animal/embassy animal/animal with lots of interest that would benefit from a back up breeding) I tend to breed once, dogs at 15 and horses at 20. :)

I have a lot of interest in my back up's, so I tend to breed them at 18 and then mine at 20.

So I would say 1 - 2 is "normal" but I would say 3 would not be frowned upon should one set be twins though.

I think this is tough questions for game VS real life because of course in real life line breeding is very common and beneficial (when done properly) but I would say just about everyone frowns upon this on the game. But any pure breeds of horses or dogs in real life will have repeating ancestors on pedigrees.

HP does not run anywhere near reality in breeding though - one stud per mare?  xD

Most people breed at 15/20 (dog/horse) and only do backups if people are interested in buying.
I breed projects as many time as I feel the urge to (including retirements) because, well, it's a project.

:/

Okay, so what I'm gathering is that it's community status quo to just breed a pairing for one, maybe two foals/pups, but that it is not frowned upon for more than that? Sounds like most people are simply doing a single breeding to preserve stable/kennel space and maximize points per pairing. Just wanted to see if there were any folks who felt like overbreeding is an issue here... thanks y'all!
