Dead from working too hard.

Students started back at school on Tuesday of this week. Last Wednesday we library staff were told by our convenor that the school board was completely changing how chromebooks are distributed to the students in all schools in the board. Previous years it was up to the school to determine. The province has now mandated that all kids in grades 4-8 should have 1:1 devices. My board took it a step further and declared 3-8 will have 1:1. In deciding that, they also said kinder-grade 2 will have 5/class. Because of the big change we were told to take our time with handing them out by the powers at the board office. All fine and dandy for them to say that, they're not the ones dealing with the teachers demanding them in schools.

They also over the summer moved all of the student emails from one google server to another and changed the stuff after the @ for them. They didn't test it on anything, so none of the software/subscriptions the board has available is working. In doing this move they also had the IT guys inventory ALL student chromebooks in all 84 schools in the board. They marked the old ones for recycling and sorted the remaining newer ones by what grade they were to go to.

My one school I don't have enough for the grade 3's to have 1:1, just the 4-6's. It's considered a "support school" because it's in a not-great area, and no kids will bring a device from home to use. (As an aside, this school prior to this year I also had nothing to do with the chromebooks, so I also had to catalogue like 200 devices before I could hand them out). My other school we have a surplus of 135 devices after handing them all out to everyone and grade 3 gets 1:1 because we have that many kids bringing their own computers from home (yay affluent suburbs!). PLUS we're getting another 25 from the board for some reason. My support school is getting no extras. Which is a whole other level of dumb I won't get into.

In short, tech is a complete SHITSHOW. Primary teachers are pissed. I had a teacher be an absolute cow and send me multiple bitchy emails about how badly things were organized, how I fucked it up, etc (not in those words though obvs) on Wednesday that had me want to tell her to go hug a landmine.

But I've survived and they're both handed out.

Oh, and like 2 weeks ago I applied to transfer out of my support school to get away from the hot-and-cold principal and I found out this morning that I got the transfer but no one's decided when I start so there's also that going on.

Oh, and on a personal note one of my friends from HS's sister committed suicide on Tuesday (it was SUPER sudden and she was only 31) so I'm going to the visitation next week to support my friend and have to mentally gear up for how tragic that visitation will be when seeing people cry makes me want to run away.

If it takes me a bit to do something or reply to you this is why. I'm trying to get back into the work "norm" swing, and it could take me a week or three, because this yearly transition is EXHAUSTING.

That's a lot going on! Sorry you're dealing with all of that right now. ): It makes me sad to think that some kids may not have what they need for school, but that's certainly not your fault and I wish the teachers understood that instead of taking it out of you. Take care of yourself and don't let the stress get to you too badly. Soon enough things will be back into normal swing and typical routines. We're all here for you!

The school I'm leaving is definitely rough around the edges, but there are definitely kids I'm going to miss, and the staff there is great. I just can't deal with the principal anymore. She's been super nice to me so far this year but I don't like the feel of waiting for the other shoe to drop with her.

Plus the new school starts later (current school I'm there at 7:30, the new one I think would be 8:30) AND it's on the other side of my suburb, so a lot closer.

Idk if I'll stay there forever, but it's a stepping stone for now!

Although after how awful Wednesday was at work, it was nice to come home and watch it. Very comforting!
