Wrapped up toasty and warm
In my home, safe from the storm
Nestled amongst boxes of presents
The Christmas lights flickering luminescence
Everyone of my friends and family, curled up and close
Ringing in the new year with those I love the most.

Walking in the frosty, snow covered fields
Over dells and streams, while the snow storm yields
Never far, her trusty dog Indie, runs by her side
Double the distance far, together they travel far and wide
Ears covered, with her favourite purple pompom hat
Rivers with their flowing waters frozen, watch as City goes splat
Laughing, as she finds her way across, ready for home,
And when the time for wondering is done, never more shall she roam
Next to her husband, her heart, her safety, that's where she belongs
Dreaming of a winter wonderland, for the snow her heart longs

Ready to celebrate.
Up before the rising
Sun - should be illegal.
Tomorrow it'll be over,
May you enjoy your day.

When you're a kid
In your bed on Christmas Eve
Nothing else can compare
To the buzz of excitement
Each sound the night-time brings
Reindeer bells? Nope, just the bell on the cat's collar as it scratches at an itch.

Windows covered with thick curtains keeping the cold
Outside where it belongs
Now your eyes are closing, you cannot stay awake
Despite every effort to stay alert you make
Each breath you take slows and asleep you fall
Red holly berries and green Christmas tree
Lights and tinsel and presents beneath
All waiting for that magical morning
New bike and a teddybear, a doll and a train
Dreams of Santa soon coming again

But that's the beauty of poetry!!!! It doesn't have to make sense or follow certain rules of standards, especially if it isn't a haiku, limeric, or ballad. There is such a thing as free verse poetry and because I'm a word-nerd, the language and sounds of the the words, themselves, can be considered poetry. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Language is fossil poetry." *end of linguistic defense*

Hey everyone,

I have been struck down by the super bug going around the UK (not covid), it is so gross and ick. I will award as soon as I can, but at the moment sitting up for more than a couple of minutes makes my head spin and I need another nap!
