Wow that just seems like a lot of real life popular breeds, I can't believe no one breeds any of them! I mean frenchies were just named America's most popular breed. Hopefully this doesn't discourage new players from playing if they have to rally to get breeds re-added.

I'm confused why chihuahuas removed is funny? Am I missing something?

I'm guessing it's because chihuahuas are largely thought as tiny angry vicious little things :P

And yes. I too was surprised by some of the ones deleted being what I consider well-known breeds.

I don't like Chihuahuas either. But I'm also not a small dog fan in general. Their barks are waaaay too annoying!

Well you see, now that makes three of us who were toying with the idea of Trakes, which raises a problem... xD

isn't this how it always happens? Something gets taken away and people go "wait no I want it now!". Well if they do come back let me know and I'll make a 4th account and join the club.

I've never liked Chihuahuas anyway, so I'm alright if the Chihuahuas are gone. But not a fan that the Trakehners and alot of the horse breeds are gone..

I had been considering starting SSA's this past week and taking this is as a sign I was not supposed to. 🤣 Didn't realize no one else was breeding them anymore!!

quick suggestion i was thinking about earier:

make a warning post like "the following breeds are at risk of being deleted." kinda of like hey this is your warning so if you're thinking about it, you better jump on it. that way those who are thinking about a breed will be encouraged to get that line going rather than toying with the idea.

i also feel like any AKC dog should stick around? i feel like these are the ones that 90% of people are going to recognize and look for. kind of along the lines of what trig saird earlier 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'll leave an official response to that suggestion up to Koni to give, but I will say...

- We generally do this once a year in the summer.
- Nothing's permanently gone. Because they're formerly on here, any breed you want re-added just needs 3 people (yourself included) to get it re-added, not as many as a brand new breed.
- We (Koni and I) have specific parameters we look at every summer when we do the breed "purge". We don't just purge every breed that doesn't have something under 21/16.

Parameters are horse breeds with nothing under 30 with any points, 25 for dogs. As for stuff moving from the store to the Cash Shop or Crossbreed-only, we won't move anything that has active breeders (ie. the parameters in the previous sentence). Once something gets moved to the cash shop (ie. wild or mythical breeds), Koni determines where it should fit in as far as the calendar of monthly feature breeds.

We also only do this once a year...we're not sitting and checking weekly through the year waiting for breeds to become inactive so that we can purge them.

And also, when I say "we"...Koni as the admin in charge of breeds goes through the list on a spreadsheet, marks the ones that fit the parameters to go or be moved classifications, then I go through and double check them, then do the zapping (because the zapping is done via the database).

If you are serious about wanting to start Trakehners, feel free to start a Breed Suggestion post!

May I ask what the purpose is behind a yearly purge? I don't know very much about databases and such but do all those breeds make that much of a difference to purge.... Just curiosisty :)

Can I add a little suggestion?

Possibly add a thread or info page which has a list of all breeds that once existed but were eventually removed from  the game? It would make it easier for someone who wants to start a non-existant breed and see if they need the full amount of breeders or just 3 to reinstate it. It took me a lot of searching to figure out if the Kerry Bogs existed at one time, as you couldn't just look them up in Search.

@Ris: It's more to tidy up the list of breeds available in general vs. database space. This may be my day job coming out, but it's like doing a weed of a library collection based on circulation statistics. There's nothing wrong with the books you are removing from the collection, it's just that people aren't reaching for them over other books and they haven't been checked out in a year, so you periodically do a weed to tidy the shelves up for better visibility in the collection. Doesn't mean the library won't buy the book again if a bunch of people request it or it becomes popular again, but while no one is wanting it it gets removed.

On that note as well, one of the breeds that was deleted (can't remember which one or whether it was dog or horse) was one that's been asked for to be added in the past year or three, yet the youngest as of Saturday was like 50 years old, and there was maybe 15 on the entire game. 

@Kiyoko: You can do a search by altering the URL of your search results to change the breed to the one you're looking for. Example...Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (which was just deleted):

1) Do a search for any breed from the Dog Search.

2) Once you get a result, from your address bar at the top of the browser, find where the breed is in the URL (I've put it in bold below): https://horsephenomena.com/dogs.php?name=&animal_id=&breed=African Wild Dog&age=&gender=&awardid=&points=&brand=&sale_toggle2=1&sale_price=&stud_toggle=1&stud_price=&order_by=1&search=Search!

3) Remove the breed and replace it with the breed you are wondering about. If the breed is more than one word, put a (plus sign) where you'd put a space:

4) Once you have typed in the breed you're looking for that's not currently on the game, hit "enter" on your keyboard or whatever to tell your browser to load the new URL. The page should load with your results.

If nothing comes up, then it's never been on HP, or you spelled it wrong, or you're missing/have too many words (ie. could have been on HP as Kerry Bog, not Kerry Bog Pony). If something comes up, then obviously it was on HP at some point.

Alternatively, you can message Koni or I and we can tell you if it has been on here at some point.

Unless there's REALLY a demand for me to make a list based off what's in the database...it would be SUPER tedious to make such a list, as I'd have to go through every animal currently on the game, sorted by breed, to suss out which ones aren't here anymore. If there is a massive demand for it, I guess I could add it to my to-do list, although I'm not sure when I'd get to it as I have a few other admin-related HP tasks on my list ahead of it.
