So I'm wanting to start a breed for my Diesel dog that I lost in Nov 2021. The problem is that he was a shelter dog that we only speculated about what his breed was, Great Dane mix. I'm just not feeling actual Danes and since I have no idea what else he might have been I can't really create a mix of two breeds to much together xD So that leaves me leaning towards Mutts.

Thoughts? Should I do it?

I dunno if this helps, but the brindle and white toesies says boxer to me! You could also do a multi-generational thing where you add in pups from the breeds that might've made up your boy. So one Great Dane, and one boxer (maybe) and just breed in pups until you get an actual hand-crafted Mutt ^^

Either way, I wouldn't be able to keep up with a project for a breed I don't have an attachment to D: I tried doing a project for one of my rainbow pups, but as much as I loved her, her breed just has never held much of an interest for me so I ended up not doing a fantastic job with her v-v

I vote what Mango said! Make-your-own-mutt, and then continue with mutts from there!

mutts are the bestest doggos!! the brindle had me thinking mastiff at first glance, but he obvs doesn't have the floopy jowls of one haha.

If you breed a bunch of breeds together does it turn into a mutt? I can't remember

I believe the first time you breed, you get breed a x breed b. But once you breed in something else it becomes a mutt.

Personally, I wish HP would just make all crosses a crossbreed/mutt. Since then you'd get an enter-all to use. But that's a different conversation, haha.

hmm, Enter-All is a good point. I feel more drawn to just starting with mutts otherwise I feel like I'd just drop out before completing even one generation. I have bucket loads of Diesel pics so I'd have plenty to use for stock ^-^ 

He looks like the sweetest good boy ever. :)
