I'd like everyone to meet Princess Winnie of amberellie-land! I asked one of my farm friends around the time I lost my cat, if they'd have any barn kittens in the spring, and sure enough she had a litter on March 1st. I picked her up on Saturday, and she's my birthday gift to myself! In typical barn kitten fashion, I'm in the process of her getting to know Molly and me. But, over time I know she'll let me eventually cuddle the crap out of her :) Also is she for sure, Tortie, or is she calico? She does have white on her chin. |

She is VERY adorable!! :D Just by looking at her, I'd say that she's a Calico :) Also on a side note; I've heard that only female cats can be Calico, however I am not sure if people just say that or if both male and females can be Calico. |

Thank you! As far as I know, Torties (tortoiseshell) and Calicos are always female! That is one thing I did know for sure on! Was not sure with the coloring, I thought she was tortie, and I did learn that torties could have some cream coloring. But, today we hit a small breakthrough of her letting me pick her up, and it's indeed white. |

*dusts off biology degree* Calicos and Torties are always (~99.999%) female, because their color is linked to the X chromosome. If you get two colors in a cat (as in calico and tortie), then it's because they have two X chromosomes (aka female) :D It's actually pretty fascinating, dealing with Lyonization and the ability to essentially switch off an X chromosome but that's... not really relevant lmao. |

Once she calms down and is more relaxed with us, I'll take more pictures!! She has ALOT of orange vs the black too; which I think is pretty neat! |

Awww... kitties! Interested to see how big she'll get. We have "barn cats" but they have really outgrown their mother in size. |

I believe she will be Eyre! -runs to the farm facebook page- I know her mom is a petite orange cat: Here are Winnie's older sisters: And they look much bigger than momma cat!! I picked her farm over other farms because she has a small dairy where she bottles her own milk, and her cats are very well cared for. So I knew I wasn't going to get an unhealthy kitten. |

Such a cutie pie! I love torties and calicos. I've had one tortie, one calico, and fostered a torbie (tabby x tortie). The United States uses "calico" more often than other countries, where they'll be called "tortoiseshell and white". So they're same thing, just more or less white. xD |

Calicos have a tri-colour coat with between 25% - 75% of the coat being white so I'd say she's a pretty little tortie! Also, torties are mostly always female and males are a very rare occurance (all to do with the DNA!). I only know that because I was going to get a blue-cream BSH before I got Berli & the lady said it was a he but then he turned into a she and I was then told about the genes and DNA! Can't wait to see more updates! ?? |

Do you think maybe Torbie?! I see like orange tabby markings on her like a bullseye |

"Tortoiseshell" is typically reserved for particolored cats with relatively small or no white markings. Those that are predominantly white with tortoiseshell patches are described as tricolor, tortoiseshell-and-white (in the United Kingdom), or calico (in Canada and the United States). I still stick with her being a tortoiseshell as she has a tiny spot of white. 🤷🏼♀️ Calico's are generally very large white spots like her sibling up above. |

I love her markings!!! My first impression of her says tortie. And that bit of what I thought was white looks more orange in the second picture. You gotta watch and see if she starts showing signs of "tortie-tude" and then you'll definitely know. xD |

I managed to forget I also own a dilute calico. Idk how my brain left out a cat. But both the tortie at my parents' and my dilute calico have some stripes. The torbies I've seen have been mostly normal looking brown tabbies with some orange patches. |
