Somehow, some way, in the way only horses can, Freddy hurt himself. The horse lives in a pasture during the day and a coral at night. Both are safe! But somehow a week and a half ago he got a small cut just under his chestnut, no big deal. I cleaned it up and for a few days it was fine.
I come out 5 days ago, and his hoof is covered in blood and I FREAK out and look him over, and I think he must of hit the cut with his hoof swatting at a fly or playing with his neighbors, because he ripped his enTIRE CHESTNUT OFF!! It is GONE! He now has a big old hole in his leg and he's in a stall and just being hand walked everyday.
He's so brave about getting it cleaned everyday though. I have to scrub it and put a bunch of stuff on it because flies are horrible this year on the west coast (i'm sure some of you know this) and Fred's been prone to summer sores before. He's just so upset being hand walked and in a stall. When I show up to the barn he screams at me and just stares at the horses in turn out with a sad face. I put his jolly ball in his stall with him, but he just threw it out twice, haha. I don't like sad Freddy!

Look at this little lump and his grumpy, smug face. I want him to look like this again, not all sad and bleh.

Today I walked him around and let him stare at some horses working cows. When he gets better I'll have to hop on him and let him turn back for the babies, since he only has to walk for that. :)

Oh, poor Freddy. :( It's amazing how animals can find ways to hurt themselves that you could never fathom.
