So I finally experienced escaped ball python owner panic....

I'd accidentally left Neo's cage open when I added more water to increase his humidity and he took full advantage and escaped sometime Friday night/Saturday morning yesterday. Cue panic because we have a lot of places/junk for him to hide in, including our reclining couch and chair and our utility room which is piled with so much stuff that we haven't gone through yet. We were getting ready to leave for my brother-in-law's baby shower, so I made the hasty decision to stay home just in case Neo came out. We have dogs who are loose in our living area, so I didn't want him to get hurt if he came out and the dogs got curious. Left trails of flour and water bowls out for him so I could try and track him and got ready to settle in for the day. Well. At the advice of my non-snake-experienced boyfriend, I checked under the water heater, which I admittedly missed on my first go-around the utility room. Found the little bugger staring right at me, cute as can be and got him out and back into his enclosure. And he took a rat happily. Little shit. |

*shudders* I could never own a snake for this reason. I can admire them from a distance, but they freak me out too much when they surprise me. I couldn't live knowing that they could escape and be loose in the house! So glad you found him safe and sound after his little adventure! |

I'm glad you found him! My brother's roommate's snake got loose once and they didn't find him for weeks until one night my brother got up in the middle of the night to get something out of the fridge and the snake decided that was a good time to come out from under the fridge and scare the living daylights...er, night? lights out of him hahaha (At the time, they were living in an extremely shoddy apartment so he was probably getting his fill of vermin to snack on and had no reason to come out in search of food...lol) |

I've experienced this with my childhood corn snakes lmaoo one got out after my brother forgot to lock the top of their enclosure. 2 hours and one mortified mother later, we found him under an armoire next to a heat vent 😂 Glad you found him safe and unharmed! also, pictures? pls i love noodles |

Ooooh lucky! Sneaky buggers, they are. Glad you found him! I also require pics of the escapee! My snakes have never escaped, but my Eastern Blue Tongue did once. Dude has never moved faster than 2kmph in his entire life, but must have gotten the wind in his knickers one day and shot out like a rocket. He scurried away into the abyss that is my son's toy room, and I didn't see him for two days. We found him in another room, fast asleep under the heating vent. Repltiles, man... |

Just thirding the request for photos of your danger noodle! Glad you found him quickly! Ignorant question - but I've mostly been raised in a danger-noodle-free country - would he have bitten your dogs? |

@rua - I was more worried about the dogs doing damage to him. I don't doubt that he'd defend himself if need be, but the size difference between him and them was far too great for me to feel comfortable trusting that they'd leave him alone. Plus, my roommates has cats (who aren't allowed downstairs) and there's enough of a gap under the door going upstairs that he would be able to sneak on through. That's super interesting, I guess if you don't know much about snakes the general perception is that they are super dangerous! It didn't even cross my mind that a dog could harm one, im happy to be enlightened, and that you found him quickly :) I agree, he is very handsome! 10/10 noodle! |

@rua - I'm sure if pressed Neo would absolutely bite them in self-defense, but they're 70lb labs and he's but a tiny noodle compared to them that it wouldn't be a fair match. In all honesty they would probably bite back in self-defense and wouldn't outright attack him, as I've had him out while they're around and they're merely curious. Still I don't let them get too close because all it takes is a second, so. I'm glad I found him before they did. |
