Finally going somewhere in my riding

I have been told for almost 4 years that I didn't know how to ride and it would take me 2 years before I'd ever get to even think about showing and this is from 2 different barns. Then they would never let me help work horses or excercise horses cause again I didn't know how to ride well. Well in May I quit the Saddlebred barn I was working at cause I was tired of doing all this work and never riding or moving forward. So I took a break and have been working at a retail store.

Well in September a girl my mom works with told her I should Check into this barn she used to ride at. So I did and signed up for lessons and I went there explaining my situation and my first lesson went well and she said I knew more then I let on. I went back the next week and she put me on a different horse and by the end of that lesson I was cantering comfortably and she was talking about moving me to the jumping group. I went for my 3rd lesson and she said if it was up to her she would have no problem putting me in a show that next weekend. I haven't gotten to show yet thanks to work and money being tight. But I have now been there 3 months and have started learning some jumping, I help the kids get ready for lessons and help with lessons, I help her with barn chores. But also you guessed it I have helped her work and excercise horses. I have now helped with 4 horses who need daily working and training so that thier kid owners can ride them. Now I have been offered to help work a 6 year old TWH cross who is afraid of everything and has now resorted to bucking and bolting with his rider. The girl has had him a month and has fallen off ever lesson and is now to afraid to get on him. I am quite excited to work with him.

But I think that it id funny how I have been told by trainers and my bosses that I don't know how to ride and can't show and all of this but come here and I'm doing exactly what they said I can't do. And I'm not even getting paid to do this I am just getting free lessons out of it.

Sorry it's so long but I needed to get this all out. Cookies to anyone who read it all. I'll get pictures of Jake here soon. He is an Appaloosa/TWH cross and is a blanket leopard Appy I think. He's an odd looking lanky thing.

Can't wait to see pictures :). It's always awesome when you're able to find a program that works for you and helps you to actually improve more and do what you really want to do!

Not all Saddlebred places or people are like that! Boo on them for not being nice!
I'm happy you found a place that from reading seems to be working out really well for you! :)

So glad you found a place and people that really seem to care for you! I would love to be able to find a place like that myself. Jake is one handsome boy, can't wait to hear about his progress! :)

Thanks once you get him working and he is calm the horse melts and will do whatever you ask. He can do dressage, jumping and just looks amazing. Hard to believe he was 150 pounds underweight when we got him

Now I have a Chance to help a family friend who got  a new horse and apparently he is an english trained kids show horse and they want him to be a pleasure horse for thier youngest daughter but he has already bucked her off a few times. They have only had western horses and don't know what to do so they want me to try him. I am thinking by the way thier talking about it he needs to be lunged and probably needs a steadier hand to get him used to being out on a trail in a new enviroment before she rides him. They don't ride often and when they do thier western trail horses. So I'll see how that goes.
