Annoying...

Read in a overly-dramatic voice:
When I first got my horse (Star), she was quite flightly and spooked at *EVERYTHING*. One windy summer day, we were riding in a large ring, and the wind spooked her. She took off. My friend was with me, she ran toward me. She clapped really hard, loud, and fast. She yelled, "HEY! STOP THAT!" That was all I needed - a running, clapping, and yelling person behind my horse. She took off even faster. I was not ready for her to get spooked by the wind, and I was *really* not ready for her to spook at my clapping, yelling friend (even though you are supposed to be ready for *anything* at *anytime*). I slipped forward hanging on the bottom of her neck. I didn't dare let go or I'd be trampled . She keept on going, seemingly oblivious to me (no, don't mind me, I'm just haning on for dear life). She headed toward a fence, I hoped she would not jump, and (thankfully) she didn't. I, then, fell of her neck. She bent down to graze as if nothing happened. My friend was all like, "Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't think she would spook at my clapping and yelling. I was fring to make her stop." Me: -.- Really?
What are some of the annoying things non-horse people do around horses? |

My pet peeve is when they walk behind a horse and they're like 1m away from their butt.. either go DIRECTLY behind him or walk far far away. Mum used to do it allllll the time and was like "he can't reach me from there" and that is the golden zone of getting your leg broken. Generally the ones I work with don't kick out. But they've been known to give it a Crack if they're in a touchy mood.
I almost got dumped by a rda horse one day because our arena backs onto a giant park and people aren't meant to be on the fence line there's even a sign explaining it's an rda center so please be quiet.. this guy had a 4x4 remote control car that took fuel. So it was LOUD and when my coach told him to please turn it off he started rattling the fence and yelling at us (it's 7ft and shade cloth with wire)... well. That totally helped the spook situation. And I was riding without stirrups with these really silly reins so I had very little control as I was sussing out tack for a rider with a disability and how he'd respond... nightmare |

I had my Paso, Levi, tied to the post while waiting for the rest of my trail ride friends to get saddled up. Some random, new people happened to be at the barn that day. I think they were there for a paid trail ride.. I don't know. But they walked up to Levi and were petting him- no big deal. Next thing I know, he is shaking his head and coughing, and doing that thing where they flip their top lip inside out. It looked cute, but I could tell something was wrong. I walked over, asked what was going on, and they proceeded to tell me they had given him some duck food they got from a petting zoo earlier that day. Duck food. My response? "Does he look like a duck to you?!" They apologized, and I gave Levi a handful of alfalfa to get the nasty taste out of his mouth. -sigh- Duck food. -facepalm- |

I also lost my first horse, Smokie, to colic. We found out a week later our neighbor had thrown onions into the pasture the same day he got sick. I don't think people understand just how sensitive a horses' digestive system is. They're not garbage disposals. |

i've only fallen on fred twice in the 12 years i've owned him, one was the first (of only three) attempts to jump him, haha. I fell off catt once because a Great Dane decided to run into the arena at us while were loping...the owner didnt do or say anything. and that dog is still around and follows me and my horses everywhere and i hate that stupid dog. like i've never actually hated a dog before i met her, but i hate her. ugh. my knee was messed up for two weeks! I have a direwolf, your argument is invalid |

They don't listen to instructions and usually end up getting stepped on or nipped. *sigh* |
