My dad was a lifelong actor. His name was Gary Graham. He appeared in hundreds of televsion shows and movies. He was more than his craft, though. He was so charasmatic, and bright, and lively and full of life. He had the funniest sense of humor, and had some crazy stories to tell of being on set (including diving into shark-infested waters in South Africa for the perfect scene!) He and I had our ups and downs, but he loved me so much through it all and I knew that.

Over the weekend, he had a random brain bleed, subsequent heart attack, and went to sleep. He was intensive care for a couple days before they let him go.

As a lifelong actor of 55 years, his final role was last September in a short film that I wrote myself. We were filming it for a competition. We cast my dad in it and for the first -- and last time -- my dad acted out my own words. We didn't know it at the time, but his very last role would be in his daughter's own film. Through the means of that film, we were able to reconcile our relationship and reconnect; there were some unspoken tensions that we were able to talk about and clear the air on. We seemed to finally understand eachother. Now, in hindsight, I'm realizing that the film was never for the competition.... it was for me and my dad. I thank God for that.

I don't know the point of this post exactly... except to share with you all my incredibly talented father who I'm finding out now was loved by so many.  Please don't worry about condolences, instead, take this very moment to text your parents or your loved ones and tell them, "I love you." If they miss you, please schedule time to go see them. Please call them, please hug them, please thank God for them. 

My dad was on a slow decline this last year, and I didn't see him nearly enough, even when he wanted me to, but I was just too busy or too stressed or had too much going on. That guilt tears me up inside now.... but I know my dad would want me to be happy for him entering the gates of heaven. When we had long talks about dying and seeing the kingdom of God, he would say to me, "Isn't it going to be just wonderful?"

He was also working on a screenplay he was super excited about. We'll be retrieving that from his laptop and I'll be finishing the script and we'll be filming it in his honor.
