Mixed breeds in the store

I was not really sure where to post this so my apologies if it's in the wrong place.

I am in the midst of starting up some Araloosas when I just realized this is NOT a breed you can just go to the store and purchase. If I want to make a nice line, I have to buy and breed Arabians and Appaloosas separately. Which I guess is not exactly a huge problem, except that it is. LOL.

I couldn't help but take notice that Pintabians and Pintaloosas are readily available in the store. Would it be possible to make mixed breeds readily available in the store? Or is it just a select few that exceptions were made for?

And let me say I would totally be willing to pay HPB for them to be a specialty thing in the cash shop. I cannot handle tons of pons, I get overwhelmed and it makes me lose interest quickly.

My guess is it's probably because there were enough breeders of pintabians and pintaloosas when they did the breed purge a bit ago but no breeders of araloosas at the time so they were cut. But like you said, they're still a breed-to-achieve breed which I agree is a lot of work to maintain.

However, I have several Arabians here https://horsephenomena.com/home.php?id=47178 that I'd be happy to cross with someone's Appaloosas for you if you like a good number of babies to start your lines off. I'd use my own appys but that's one breed that I do not do at all.

And I can start a special divider going forward to continue new store Arabians for you to have new araloosas going forward that aren't related to ones I breed for you previously.

Me and Oak are actively trying to breed Aztecas and German Shepweiler as well.  It is alot of work maintain i agree.  takes awhile to get the base breeds up to where we can actively start breeding them...but then we run into not having enough to cross....

my question - with the crossbreed can we breed back to the base and still get the crossbreed we want...or will it be Azteca x Andalusian sorta thing?

Yes, I believe you can breed a German shepweiler with a GSD or a rottie and get a shepweiler, for example.

Koni's crazy busy with it being a holiday week at work so I will go ahead and answer this!

There are some crossbreed animals (Pintabian, etc) that are available to buy in the store because, when we (Koni and I) really started to "enforce" the breed-to-achieve idea with crossbreeds a few years ago, those breeds still had active breeders. In order to not alienate those players who were activelly breeding/training them and/or discourage them from breeding them, we left them in the store.

Same thing goes with the wild breeds. There are a few that are still in the store because there are people who actively breed them.

Koni and I do go through the breeds lists in the store every summer and review what isn't an active breed and clean up/move breeds as required. We do have set parameters we follow for both horse and dog (eg. Horse breeds with non actively being trained under X age, Dog under Y age). Typically Koni goes through and does the list first, then I do a run through after her of the ones she's marked to look and confirm. If something wild gets moved to the cash shop we also have the discussion then as to when their spotlight month will be.

As for the challenge of doing a breed-to-achieve crossbreed....that is the idea. It's an additional aspect you can choose to do, like Mango's Prism thing. I've started a few breed-to-achieve crossbreeds in the past year, and I highly suggest picking a breed you already have one of the crosses being trained. Eg. I picked up Goldendoodles and Golden Irish Dogs when I already breed Goldens, so coming up with mates when I get down to just 1 pup won't be as much of a challenge.

And to Farewell's question, yes. If I have a Goldendoodle and breed a Golden Retriever to it, it'll come out a Goldendoodle.

OK, if I am reading and comprehending correctly, I could breed my Araloosa with an Arabian or Appaloosa and the foal will still be an Araloosa? That is defintely less pressure than having to create endless amounts of Araloosas with two different breeds going constantly lol. If this is correct, I am golden! Also still would love an HPB option to buy them from the Cash Shop. xD

And thank you Nad for offering such a kind gesture. I truly appreciate that!

Yes, you are correct on the Araloosa front!

My other question - sorry if this isn't mixed breed related...but the American Quarter Horse and the Quarter Horse.  they are the same breed, but i don't understand why both are still in the store?  also when im breeding for Aztecas i can only breed to American Quarter Horse....not just Quarter Horse...  What is the differece bwtween the two and is it possible to merge the two?

In a nutshell...because they've both existed as long as the game has, and merging one into the other (which is possible btw) would make people angry lmao.

The Accepted Crossbreeds list is Sam/Koni/Blitz-generated. I can add the QH/Andy cross for Aztecas.

Edit to add: OK so Aztecas aren't TECHNICALLY an exclusively breed-to-achieve animal. They're actually a breed that was deleted the year before last due to lack of anyone breeding them.

So if you're going to want to actually revive/breed them and have access to a Breed Specialty for them, you'll have to get them re-added to HP.

I ran into this issue not long ago when I decided I wanted to breed Arabo-Friesian's. They once were in the store, but due to lack of breeders apparently, they were taken out. It took a bit to get them again--thanks to Nad! I keep what I am calling breeders in a separate divider. It's a pain to manually train without the enter all but I'm surviving.

This is slightly unrelated but something I've always been curious about. Is the mythical cash shop Thoresian breed the same thing as the breed-to-achieve crossbreed Thoroughbred x Friesian?

Hi Blitz - oooh ok - they are listed as acceptable mix breed and when Oak and I did a sample breed we did get an azteca...but continuing forward we would need to have them readded?

@Kayla Gayle: They were removed when we did the inital revamp and pushed all the crossbreeds that weren't actively being bred to be "breed-to-achieve".

@Little Wolf: Kinda? lol. Thoresians were initially added as a concept after Blue pitched them. But they're also the same thing to a degree as the Thoroughbred x Friesian.

@Fantasy: They can be crossbred to get them, however if you wanted them in the store and whatnot again you'd have to find 2 other people to breed them.
