Why?

The Senner horse is a rare breed, with less than 100 registered animals in real life. Their lines include Arabian, Anglo-Arab, and TB interwtined with Iberian stock over centuries. They are beautiful horses that grow tall and have all coat colors. They really are cool little muffins. I will breed them, in fact I have a layout already ready for them. I took snippets from the information below to write this first paragraph. Please join me in celebrating a rare, disappearing horse breed from the beautiful mountain hillsides of Germany. They are their oldest saddle horse breed and critically endangered. Doesn't mean they're not gorgeous. And they come in all colors. They may be the reason Hanoverians exist, they are a warmblood. Beautiful little babies. Rare, endangered, ancient little babies who need love.

Origin and history of the Senner

The Senner’s origins are shrouded in mystery, with many historical records lost in a 1945 fire. However, medieval documents mention feral herds in the Senne as early as 1160. Initially bred to serve the Lippe family, the breed was influenced by Arabian, Anglo-Arab, Thoroughbred, and Iberian stock over centuries.Genetic analysis revealed a unique maternal DNA line linking them with certain Arabian thoroughbreds, suggesting ancient connections to the Arabian region well before systematic stud book records began in 1713.

Character and features of the Senner

Senner horses are of Anglo-Arabian type and noted for their exceptional versatility and robustness, with an average height of 158 to 167 cm and capable of displaying all coat colors. Their adaptability to various environments and tasks makes them invaluable in both agriculture and recreational sports. 

Utilisation of the rare Senner

Traditionally, Senner horses were utilized for a range of tasks from farming to riding. Today, they are particularly valued for leisure riding and driving, and landscape maintenance due to their endurance and friendly nature.

Current situation of the rare and endangered Senner

With less than 100 registered animals, the Senner breed is critically endangered. Conservation efforts are focused on preserving their genetic diversity and promoting their unique characteristics. The population development shows a slow increase in the total number of Senner horses from 41 in 2009 to 58 in 2022 and 2023. The number of mares and stallions capable of breeding remains relatively stable, with slight fluctuations in the number of covered mares and live foals each year.

Please note: As of January 2025, all breeds getting added are on a 3-month 'probation' period. During this period, I will check on each committed breeder to ensure they are actively breeding the added breed. If it is noticed that the committed breeders are no longer actively training/breeding, the breed will be removed and unable to be re-added for another 6 months. 

We have noticed a huge spike lately in players who request a breed to be added to the game, or sign up to help get a breed added and then do not follow through in breeding/training them past the first few weeks of being on the game. Any player noticed committing to breeds regularly and then not continuing with the breed will be noted, and after enough instances, will no longer be counted in the total number of committed breeders. If we see this continuing, we will change the requirements for getting breeds added to ensure breeds are active in the game.
