I scoured the suggestions forum and couldn't find a thread for these guys, so here they are: American Cream Drafts! I would love the opportunity to breed these gorgeous drafts here on HP.

ACD's are a very unique draft breed, their "cream" is actually a gold/buff (chestnut based) champagne. The only other color that occurs is chestnut (and from what I have seen, only flaxen pangare/sorrel reds, like a Belgian). Developed in the early 1900's, they are the only draft breed created in the United States that is still in existence. They are considered very rare and are listed as "critical" breeds by The Livestock Conservancy and the Equus Survival Trust.

They're an absolutely gorgeous breed - i've had the pleaseure of working with one quite a few years ago ♥ 

Deshka, are you sure about the colors? I ask because of the ACDHA page stating:

"The site for this association states "Second, it is Cream in color, which is one of the three main physical characteristics manifested by the working of the “Champagne” gene. The other two traits which are obvious in an American Cream are the pink skin and the amber colored eyes."

So I'm taking this that any Champagne Cream would be permitted, but looks to be a good chunk of them are the Gold Cream Champagnes (chestnut based). Per the statement above, a chestnut would not be registerable. Not trying to question things, I promise. Just want things more "clear" for others.

Cinch - Now that I'm looking again, I have a feeling that the chestnuts I saw in the google images were, in fact, Belgians. LOL
as for other champagnes, I don't think that they have anything in the gene pool other than e/e red based horses. But, just because I haven't seen them, doesn't mean they aren't there! And I believe the wording would allow for any American Cream Draft with the champagne gene, regardless of base color. I saw some gorgeous crosses that were ambers and lilacs!

Yea, it's hard to find for sure if they are only red based. But I'm beginning to wonder if they are, because it says the mane/tail is supposed to be white, and that would only happen with a chestnut based or a black based with silver. It's hard to pinpoint Dx I'm a member on another game and am going to be working on the genetics so trying to find these things out on rare breeds is difficult.

I'm definitely still interested in breeding them. Since the thread and replies are about a month old, I've messaged the other players who are interested to see if they are still wanting to start ACDs.

Cinch, kono, and Audacious messaged me back saying they're interested, and Audacious and I are partnering up.

So with Audacious/me, Cinch, Kono, and lacey, we STILL need either one person to want to start the breed or Deshka to message me back!
