I had a dream last night that I posted to get this breed added, so I decided it had to be fate! XD This is the last breed I am missing from all the breeds I worked with in my prior game, and I plan on having a Marsh Tacky be one of my mascot horses for next year. So let's go! :D

The Marsh Tacky, also called the Carolina Marsh Tacky is a critically endangered gaited breed that is native to South Carolina, currently numbering around 400. The breed was developed from Spanish horses brought from Spanish explorers and settlers as early as the 16th century. The breed is related to the Florida Cracker Horse & the Banker Horses of North Carolina. It's unique gait has been seen as similiar to the Spanish breed Mangalara Marchador, so they may have a shared ancestor.

The breed got it's name because it was well known for it's stamina and ability to work in water and dense swamplands when other breeds usually panicked, and the "Tacky" part of the name because the breed was also often seen as a cheap local breed. Perhaps their affinity for swamps and water make them the closest things to real life Kelpies!

Native Americans used the Marsh Tacky as pack animals for trading, and they were used in many conflicts. From pack horses in the American Revolution and Civil War, to being used for beach patrols during World War II to scout for German U-Boats. Today they are a versatile breed, used in everything from trail riding, hunting, cow herding and the Marsh Tacky Beach Races held once per year.

Being a gaited breed, it has a unique gait that called the Swamp Fox Trot. It is a four beat gait that is compared to both the Mangalara Marchador and Missouri Fox Trotter gaits, but is still unique enough to warrant it's own name. The breed is on the smaller side, averaging around 14 to 14.2 hands high though can go as low as 13 to as tall as 15 hands. The most common colors are Dun, Grullo, Black, Roan, Bay and Chestnut. Historically they also came with pinto markings, but has been bred out of today's modern horses.

I believe the Marsh Tacky is completely new to HP, so I would need four fellow breeders to bring these bad boys to life, and help with my goal for the mascot contest!
