Figured I should make a post, more as an FYI to all.

I go back to work on Monday (the 25th). Booooo.

This year is going to be a bit different with that compared to previous years, however.

Back in June, I applied to transfer from the two elementary school libraries I have worked in for the past several years, to a position that opened up at a local high school. End of July, after chasing after HR, I found out I got the job. As much as I don't want to work in a high school with high school kids (my heart is in elementary 100%!), high school library technicians work at only the one school, and they work 12 months out of the year. For my entire 11-year career to this point, I've been a 10-month employee and had to go on unemployment every summer, so this is obviously going to be a huge change for me (and will hopefully give me the boost to finally get out of my parents' house and into my own place!)

On top of that, high schools have teacher-librarians as well, so I'll actually be working side-by-side with another library professional every day, which is exciting considering to this point my job has been very solitary! The woman I'll be working with is the best in my school board AND is absolutely lovely, so all around it's exciting!

What does this mean for HP, though?

Well, I don't start at the new school until September 2nd (which is the first day of school for students). So this coming week I will be not only starting back at work, but I'll still be in my two elementary schools for the week trying to pack up all my shit to either go in my basement or go to the new school (problem with working at 2 locations, I have 2 of everything lol), as well as I've decided to take on the task of trying to get all 400 chromebooks (each school has about that many) ready, vinyl taped, student-name-labeled, checked out, and delivered to the classrooms before I leave for good on Friday, as HR is slower than molasses in January in the Arctic, and they haven't hired anyone to replace me yet. And knowing previously what it's been like at other schools with my position, it could take months. So I'm going to try to get the chromebooks out to all the classes before I go so at least they're set with that. I'll also be dealing with a lot of big emotions about leaving my staff and students who I've grown to really love in the years I've been working with them. Change is hard, yo.

tl;dr? Blitz is going to be VERY tired at the end of every day. And that's not counting the first week of school for students when I'll also be hitting the ground running in the new school trying to learn the ropes of a new building, a new dynamic, and how high school libraries work.

In short, I apologize in advance if I'm not very communicative on here over the next few weeks, or if I take way longer than I should to get back to people. It's a big transition at a time of the school year that's already chaotic and busy, but I will do my best to not drop off the face of the earth!
