I know we had English Shepherds on the game previously, I just did a retirement breeding on my three pairs that I forgot about on this spare, as it happens. What's an English Shepherd you ask? If you like bossy dogs with a lot of opinions, decent energy level and livestock sense then an English Shepherd might be a good fit! The majority of English Shepherds in the US are dogs working either on farms or other tasks. My English Shepherd boy, Branch see here! Works as a service dog for PTSD and helps us manage our chickens and mouthy roosters. English Shepherds are origionally from New England and are a collie breed. They have an open stud book, so if a dog fits the type and can perform the traditional farm work most English Shepherds still do, they can register with the UKC. The AKC, in a fit of silliness, does not currently register English Shepherds. The most common colors are: Black and White, Black and Tan, Black, White and Tan, White and Tan, Sable and White and Tan and White. They're medium sized, males 19-23 inches, females 18-22 inches. Here are some full body photos of Branch as a reference: In terms of build, Branch is a slender boy, but not prohibitively so. As a matter of fact, he's getting ready to be studded out to an English Shepherd female in January. English Shepherds can live long lives; Branch's grandpa lived to 15 and was still trying to go herd cows! Englsih Shepherds are intelligent, attentive, agile, energetic (but not nuts like Border Collies, they'll settle well but enjoy working), adaptible to anything you need them to do! My boy is SUPER gregarious, loves kids and people, very confident and bossy. I wish they got more love offline than they do, but they're not as flashy as some other breeds. Here's the UKC page on them if you want more info! UKC Website: English Shepherd |
