well, we made it to the final day of our annual 24 days of christmas!

what's a winter/holiday tradition you and your family/friends do?

for us, my mom will hide the "christmas pickle" on the tree, and whoever finds it first gets a little prize! the one that lives rent free in my head is when me and my brother were climbing on fruniture to get to the top of the tree and pushing each other over. needless to say we can be a bit violent, but it's always in good fun!

When I was a kid every Christmas Eve  we would go drive around looking at the lights with my grandma, brother plus sometimes my cousins and aunts and uncles. I miss that but it lives on in my memories :)

idk we just open gifts and then go to my aunts sometimes

but your  "christmas pickle"  reminds me of the ken doll we had at my grandmas. one year he lost his head. and we wasnt able to find it anywere so one of my cousins stuck an pickle on for an head. and oh gosh that lasted forever. when grandma moved and we were cleaning up her house we found it and it wasnt as gross as one would think for 5 years. lol

Growing up, my family would have a smorgasbord of snacks on Christmas eve for supper. We had my parents, my sister, my grandmother,  my great grandmother, my mom's cousin and her husband, and myself. We'd eat some in the kitchen together. Then we'd go to the living room to do the tree, which took us hours to unwrap everything, and we'd pick at the food left on the table all throughout unwrapping and then ate some more after gifts were finally all done too. My grandmothers would both spend the night at our house because they lived 1 1/2 hours away and my father always drove down in the afternoon to pick them up and bring them back to our house.

Then Christmas Day, we'd get up and do stocking and unwrap the newly overnight appearing gifts under the tree "from santa" (my mother was a huge advocate for that - I'm not with my son. We focus Christmas on Christ). And we'd have a big (actual) dinner at noon time.

But now that I'm an adult, we do everything in the morning on Christmas Day. It's just my son, my husband, and I. We usually get up early and do our stockings first. Then the gifts under the tree. Then we go over to my parents-in-law's house around noon for a family meal where everything contributes something. It's all my husband's family (his parents, his brother and his wife, his sister and her husband and 2 kids, and when she's in the state, his other sister with her husband and 3 kids. And do gifts to each couple from each of us.

As a kid, my dad and I always used red and green paper to create an advent chain on the last day of November. Then every day we would tear one link off the chain until Christmas Eve when it was the last chain left! The whole chain would be draped across our Christmas tree and it was always so exciting watching the chain get shorter and shorter (: I miss those days, and my dad sooo much!

A tradition in my family was to get the TV guide and my sibs and I would circle the movies and shows that we wanted to record onto VHS tapes. I still have a load of those tapes, but haven't watched any in over 20 years.

We usually do a Christmas Eve present and watch Christmas movies! We then will bake cookies and set out milk and cookies for Santa, and carrots for all his reindeer.

Christmas Day on the beach! After opening presents, we pack our stuff and head to the beach for lunch, swimming, BBQ and lots of fun.

One tradition when my brothers and I were little was that after church on Christmas Eve, we got to open one gift. It was always super exciting to pick WHICH gift we were most curious about, as my mom would usually have them wrapped and under the tree several days in advance. I found out many years later it was a compromise between my parents' two traditions of my mom's side always opening gifts on Christmas Eve and my dad's side always opening gifts on Christmas morning. XD

Traditions have changed tremendously and are a bit different every year in my household. This year we binge-watched Christmas movies with snacks and hot cocoa. We didn't have room for a tree since we were hosting a huge family gathering, so no decorating the tree this year. We still had little man open presents Christmas morning and had him get into his stocking. Then we had my in-laws here for dinner and another gift exchange.

I am not looking forward to hosting again in a few weeks for my side of the family. I get easily overwhelmed with the perfectionist cleaning I do when I know people are coming over. I also have social anxiety, so that many people in a small space talking at once is like a personal hell of mine lol. But I survived it! The food was good. Nobody was bickering. That's all I cared about besides little man being happy.

I long back for the days I would go to my parents, and my mom would make a christmas dinner and we'd have snacks while unwrapping presents with eachother. Unfortunatly my parents passed away a while ago.

The way I go about christmas right now is I go to my bonusmom and have food and a nice day there. I take my small dog with me and we are playing a game of monopoly or something.

My mom always makes Brocoli casserole, my favorite! Simple, but it isn't christmas without it.

Kinda a new thing. The past year or two my best friend and I find Christmas wrapping paper with cats on it to wrap our gifts to each other in. Though now, I also wrap all my family & other friends' gifts with the cat wrapping paper on it and get some good laughs. Target so far has been the place to find them!
