Hi. Yes. I have news and it is kind of sad. Like okay, it is sad? But also it is good.

The short story is: I am selling Catt and my trainer is negotating prices with the guy tomorrow and we are pretty sure he's gonna buy him tomorrow or at least confirm and then drop me off a check/I'll give him the transfer of ownership papers and he'll come pick him up.

The detailed story is:
Catt had a month off when he slightly pulled his SI muscle. He's perfectly 100% sound and fine now. But that month off really agreed with him and he basically does not want to go back to work. Any efforts to make him bridle up and go back to work result in him either rearing or when he realizes that rearing is not gonna make me fall off, he just takes off and when he realizes that I'm just gonna spur him forward and make him go when he bolts then he just refuses to do anything. This is in terms of reining and flat work. He is still perfectly agreeable to rope on, work a cow on, or do anything on the ground with. And this has been going on for three months getting kind of worse. So my farrier who is also the son of a world champion reining cow horse trainer, and is himself a pretty accomplished ranch roper and heeler asked if he could see how Catt did roping and working cows with him and I guess he really likes him. He knew I was considering selling him and told me that if I did he wanted first dibs. So my trainer and I talked for a long time for a couple day and she told me I should sell him to Manny because a.) I know Manny will have no trouble with him, b.) I can ask Manny about Catt every six weeks when he comes to do Fred's feet, and c.) I still have Moxy to ride and work with so I wont be without a horse.

I'm like really really upset when I think about it and am away from him, but when I ride him and see that he just isn't a good fit for cow horse, I know its a good decision to sell Catt. I'm not a roper and I own a rope horse right now. I feel like I'm giving up on him? Like I kind of know I am not because it isn't my fault that  want to show reining cow and it isn't Catt's fault he isn't a reining cow horse. It is just the way it is with horses sometimes. I've just had him since he was 3 and known him since he was 4 months old and he's my baby. And like when I bought him I was going to train him to sell him anyway, but then I decided to keep him, but now I'm selling him again. Idk. Things are weird.

I know I'll be happy with everything in a few months when he's sold and I'm used to him being away but right now it is very bleh.
I also know that it will be good for me to be able to save up all my money from work so I can buy a nice show horse sometime next year and get back into showing and reining cow horse which is what I really want to do.
I also also know that sometimes this happens with horses and that it sucks but it is sadly part of the sport and the whole horse thing.
Life is stupid right now. Bleh. haha/

Anyway, just so this post isn't totally depressing here are some cute photos of Catt and Moxy. Moxy was actually really hyper and playful which is rare because she is usually far too serious a mare to be involved in any foolishness. :p

Also I found Fred's old leather halter with his name on it so I made him pose with it.

Awwww, I'm sorry that Catt and you just can't come to terms. :(  I know you struggled with him for awhile now, but sometimes it's the best to move on.  I wouldn't see it as giving up as more so making a much needed change.  He's made it clear that he is being worked for something he doesn't love, and no one likes working a job they don't love. :P  I'm sure he will have a blast chasing those moo moo's and it's wonderful that you will get updates!

ps. You're herd of horsies are as beautiful as ever! :D

I'm sorry to hear about Catt, poor guy has just got everyone unhappy right now. It's been a long time coming it seems and, like tron said, no one likes working a job they hate. That's kind of the sad thing about horses, sometimes they just can't or don't do what you want from them. At least you know where he will be and he'll be doing something that makes him happy. I'm sure when you find your new partner you'll realized everything changed for the better. I'm sure he/she will be another stunning poneh too to go along with all your memories of Catt (and Fred).

Ps. Fred looks extra studdly in that halter ;D

It sounds like this was what was meant to be. You know he'll be in good hands and not that far away, doing what he wants to do and giving him an opportunity to shine. It's sad that he didn't work out after everything that went into him, but if he's not a good match professionally, then nothing is going to make him be one. It sounds like your farrier is just the kind of person that he needs. Who knows. It kinda sounds like he's in a position to REALLY take Catt places!

It's hard, and it's like losing a best friend. But sometimes that's just for the best.

I'm sorry that Catt's not worked out :( At least, like you said, you know who he's going to, that it's a good home that you can ask about how he is, and could (in theory) go visit him if you really wanted to!

Unfortunately, as much as we love horses sometimes and get attached to them, their goals may not jive with yours :(

*hugs*

I agree with all that's been mentioned above. Still sad to part with a friend, but from the sounds of it he'll be in good hands. Hang in there!

I'm sorry that it didn't work out! It sounds like you know what the right thing to do is, though! Your pictures are beautiful :). What kind of camera do you use?

Okay, so on my phone, my post said way more than "thank you guys" but I gues smy phone was dumb and didn't post that, so my post kind of seemed insenstivie, sorry!!! x.x

What it was supposed to say wasssss,
thank you guys.
I rode him today and he was really good. But I could tell that even doing warm up circles and bending exercises he was not really into it. And during the circles and changes of speed for reining he was just bleh, so I just dropped my reins and let him lope. Figured that for our last rides I'll do what he wants and actually enjoy myself. x.x
I know that sometimes it doesn't work out, it is just one of those things in Horse-dom that nobody likes. But you guys are right, I am lucky that Manny wants to buy him and to use him for roping because that will make Catt happy. Manny really is a wondrful wonderful guy and Catt will be kept at his dad's barn which is a show/client barn so I know he'll be pampered and treated well, haha.

Samantha: I use a Canon Rebel T1i and just the Canon 50-250mm f4.0-5.6 lens the camera came with. I got it as a package deal at Costco a while back and I think they are all the way up to the like T4i, so I'm sure the T1is theough T3i's you could find for a good price on Amazon or Ebay. :)

Update: Manny just called me. He is going to let me know on Wednesday, but he is, as he put it "99.9% sure he's buying my horse on Wednesday" so I hope he does. x.x

Aww :( I understand where you're coming from, it's just like that with showing dogs or working dogs. Some times things don't work out as you had planned. Hope he buys Catt!
