POST YOURE RECIPES! I LIKE MAKING NEW THINGS AND MY HORSE LIKES EATING EVERYTHING SO C'MON LETS HEAR SOME AWESOME TREAT RECIPES! Personally my horse's favorite was something my friend told me about. What you need: Folgers can. like this: http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/06/folgers.jpg Alfalfa Cubes Gallon of apple juice. [i go big or go home... lmao...] Get a Folgers coffee can, fill it about 3/4 full of alfalfa cubes. you can usually buy them at local grain stores. Fill the Folgers/alfalfa container with apple juice up until about an inch from the top of the alfalfa cubes. let it soak for 1 day. it'll expand as the alfalfa absorbs the apple juice and then if the top layer is still hard [doesn't have any apple juice absorbed], then add more apple juice. it shouldn't be soupy. if it is, stir and add more alfalfa cubes. |

I've never tried making horse treats, but it's a neat Idea, maybe I will! I have made gingerbread cookies and fed them to my horse before :), he ate then, but he was so young and new to treats at the time I'm not sure he really knew what to do with them. Also the honey whatever cheerios I've seen people feed. |

i used to make these all the time:1 cup dry oatmeal1 cup flour1 cup chopped/grated carrots1 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon sugar2 teaspoons vegetable oil1â4 cup molassesHeat oven to 350 degrees, chop carrots into little pieces or grate it with a cheese grater.. I found that grating it made them turn out a bit nicer. Mix in the carrots with all the dry ingredients and then add the oil, mix, then add the molasses last.Make bite-sized balls and put them on a cookie sheet - spray with pam or line with parchment first to prevent sticking and then bake them for around 15 minutes. I cooked them until they were slightly crisp on the outside, but chewy on the inside. It depends on your oven and what you and your horse like best. You can also add other things in there, like apple slices, chopped dates, raisins..I would make these and bring them to the barn with me. A few girls and I set up a treat exchange where we all would make different ones and share them :P |
