So our neighbors own a business in downtown near the boat launches and there was a Catahoula Leopard puppy with a collar that was running around the shop and they brought her home (they have 7 outdoor pack dogs so she just fit in) and I fell in love and planned on bringing her home. She would follow me around while I fed the horses and she knew no well and she was just a smart puppy which is why I liked her. I would've brought her home Monday, but Tuesday and Wednesday it rained and I didn't need to have a wet dog in the house and she needed flea medication and Buddy. That would be a whole outdoor day of getting Buddy to get used to her.

Yesterday someone was feeding the horses and she was following them and they grabbed hay and slammed the hay gate... On her neck. She instantly peed and pooped on herself, when she was let go she ran off. It was raining all night and water got high, I went out and looked for her but didn't see her. They said she was in very bad shape, there's a possibility her neck could be broke? Idk. I'm upset tho, I loved her and now we don't know where she is.

UPDATE

I went out to feed the next day and I go to feed the girls. I walk over to their trailer and immediately notice there is hay and leather poking out the door. I open it, and here she is.

What had happened was when she got popped, she ran across the property to the girls trailer and hid there. The person closed the door without her even makig a peep. She was stuck in there for 26 hours and at the peak of the day 90°(likely more in that trailer).

She started jumping like a jackrabbit when she saw me, I had to lead her over to eat and drink something. She's doing just fine, besides getting buggy from sleeping in the hay.

We bring her over today to see how she gets along with Buddy before the weekend celebrations scare her off. She's such a good puppy, gdoesnt bark at cars or approach people. She knows no and learns fast (no jumpin, no bitin)

I'm happy to have her join the family

She finds feeding the horses the most serious of jobs.

She loves golf carts and helps herself to a free ride.

She's pretty much the coolest thing since sliced bread.

She follows Bandit and I around when we ride, I'd like to see how well she sticks around if we were to go out and trail ride. The fact that she follows and doesn't chase and listens to me way up there is crazy in itself. WHY IS SHE SO SMART

Has she seen a vet? After an ordeal like that she should probably be checked over to make sure everything is okay.

Cute pup.

All the area vets are closed since it is the 4th of July weekend, but I'm planning on taking her Monday if theyre open. Texans have a holiday like this and the businesses stay closed 2 days before and 3 after to recoup.....

My vet tech friends who have checked her briefly have all given her the go ahead, so she will just be going to the vet for vaccinations and such

Def agree with Shae about having a vet take a good look at her, but that's really good news that your friends were able to help in the meantime!
She's a cutie! :)

o.O Interesting. Surely there's an after hours/emergency vet? I wouldn't be comfortable leaving it until the vets decide they're un-hungover enough to be open. Vet techs giving her a quick lookover is great and all but she needs a thorough examination. Involuntarily urinating and defacating after having her neck slammed in a gate is pretty horrific and then being stuck in the heat all day tbe following day.. There could be serious problems that aren't blindly obvious.

Your dog and your decision obviously but I don't think leaving it all weekend is good for the dog.

EVERYTHING is closed? That's weird. I get its Texas and 'MURRICAH and all but. You'd think SOMETHING would have the responsibility to stay open in case of an emergency. A vet clinic is basically a hospital. They have all those animals that have to stay for multiple days...

I googled vet hopstials, posted on local forums, only things that came up were "oh I used to/my husband is a retired vet, we can help" which I didn't feel OK at all with. Her neck/structure is normal, she's had normal bowel movements (liquidy the day after, but now solid) and she's been eating and drinking normally. Like I said, I'll bring her in Monday or Tuesday when one is open but she's none the worse for wear :)

The fireworks didn't even horribly phase her, just normal shock and then easing to calm as the night went on. They have a pack of dogs she's living with and everyone was carrying on but her and the other puppy I found and raised. They've been keeping each other company

I'm for texas and can verify that emergency vets are kinda non existant :/ Most (good) vets are small family run businesses that like to enjoy their holidays and vactions. If you live in like the middle of san antonio or one of the bigger cities you may find one but texas is a big place and some people would have to drive 5 hours to get to one. The situation isn't much better here in Italy as italians REALLY love holidays... Luckily we have a great vet who I can get a hold of day or night and he will be there to help.

So we brought her home yesterday (I had such an anxiety attack thanks to the neighbors accusing me of taking her but then telling me to take her WHILE STILL GOING ON ABIUT HOW THEY WANTED HER)

We introduced Buddy and Lace in the street on neutral territory and gave treats and it was a very good introduction looking back. Brought them in and both were good. Buddy is a very timid dog, so I was watching his clues and letting him have alone time when he got stressed. Took her out to run and run and run, she just doesn't have a stop button. Went to bed with Bud on my bed (his usual spot) and her in her cage. Woke up this morning and gave her a heavy duty flea bath and gassed the house to kill any left and now she just itches because the wounds still hurt (she had infected bites on her belly poor baby)

We let her and Bud meet without a leash and he finally growled at her and snapped so she doesn't bother him when he lays down to rest. I was so waiting for him to just tell her to quit. I'm finally calm and happy things are going so well. Yesterday bringing her home was so bad, I almost just brought her back over there and told them to take her.

As of today she has already learned sit (sit, and she sits. Don't have to touch her butt anymore) and down is next along with stay. She's very smart.

Wednesday we take her and Buddy to the vet. He has a show this weekend and needs certificates and she needs a checkup.

Wish us luck on our endeavors!
