So I am going to begin Sierra the Labradors training but with her being a year old my usual training style isn't going to work. Any suggestions?

I have only ever trained puppies so all I needed was treats but she is a year old and very hard headed.

Use positive re-enforcement. Training treat work great with labs! However, you don't want to over use them or your dog will never listen unless you have a treat in your hand.

"After your dog has learned the commands, only reward him with treats once in a while. He should be expected to perform them correctly, but receiving a treat occasionally helps keep him more interested. During this stage of dog training, a more appropriate regular reward is praise and petting. This gives your dog something to look forward to for obeying and builds the bond between pet and owner stronger than dog treats can."

Check out Caesar Millan's training tips! His tips really work and have done wonders for my less than perfect dogs. I used his tips to get my 2 year old STUBBORN beagle to walk on a leash nicely and to potty train a 1.5 year old beagle mix I rescued. I only found his tips after exhausting every resource I had.

His site is here: http://www.cesarsway.com/channel/dog-trainingI've trained several labs at all ages. The worst was my aunt's 4 year old hyperactive lab. I use Caeser's methods all the way!

She jumps, barks, pulls while on a walk, and is the doggie version of adhd.
