As I mentioned in my Intro thread,I am sort of unsure as to what I want to work with now that I'm back and upgraded. There's just so many breeds that I could do!Plus,I have a short attention span...to stick with something, there has to be a lot to it.Something like that,I guess.Anyways,I just can't decide! My absolute favorite breed is the Thoroughbred. They're gorgeous, they're atheletic, they're awesome.I'm leaning towards them, but then again they're probably so popular there wouldn't be anything original about it.I also thought a Warmblood breed, since I love Dressage and you rarely see a non-Warmblood at the top and they're also rather gorgeous, but I just can't get myself to commit to any one of them, either. My favorites are Oldenburgs,Westphalians, and Zangersheides.

I am here asking for suggestions as to what I should work with!I'm seriously considering the Thoroughbred, but I'm looking for everybody's opinion.I want to have fun with whatever I end up with. The key thing here is that I love the breed and I'll have an active community to be involved with with the breed so I will hopefully stay interested in them :).

Thanks in advance!

MORGANS.

Says the Morgan queen.

Honestly, it depends on if you care about breed popularity or not.  A plus side of Thoroughbreds is that they are fairly popular!

I would suggest TB's!  It's a large community of breeders and there will be lots of oppertunities to share lines and sell back ups. ☺

Even though you probably already have your mind set, this is just a bit of helpful information incase you change your mind {I've done it!}. While I've only been on the game a year and back for a short time, hopefully some of my experience can help you or any other players for future reference!

"How can I stay committed to a breed without changing?"

This is actually somewhat difficult to answer. Sometimes, it is inevitable to change breeds due to certain circumstances {i.e lack of interest, no market, etc.}, but other times - we simply change our breeds out frequently due to personal wants. Think of HP horses as a puppy in the window - You already have a dog at home, but the pupy is so cute and you REALLY want to bring it home. It can be the same here; while we're already focused on one breed, we sometimes want another.

Probably one of the best suggestions I can advise to you or anyone is don't sacrifice yourself. Since you are allowed up to 5 accounts, you can easily use these accounts and own 5 different horse/dog breeds of your choice {or both if you're daring!}. Secondly, I would say committment truly depends on a breed you want to do and care for.  If you truly have a deep passion for a breed, you're more likely to stay committed to them.

When I started back in '13, I raised Hanoverians and while I love them for their dressage abilities - I only love them in real life. Once I started them on here, I immediately lost interest by the second generations before my quit/hiatus; so I believe that it's important to choose a breed you have a deep passion for as it can be easier to commit to.

"What are the most popular breeds?"

For horses, there is quite an array of breeders for many breeds and you should have no problem of them wanting buyers. Some of these include:

Paint Horses

American Quarter Horses

Thoroughbred

Arabians

Appaloosas

So any of these could be a very good choice to start with!

"What's a good number to start with?"

Best numbers to stay are between 2 - 4 horses, do not go any lower or any higher or you will run into trouble.

No problem, Mobius! I've bounced around a lot myself with breeds so I know the feeling lol. As for other breeds, I forgot to mention that you can also do partnerships with breeds too! :) So never feel like "Ughh I want to do Hanoverians but I have to do Thoroughbreds!"

You don't. I currently raise AQH's on this account and Appaloosas with Trig on her Upgraded account. There are many great people in this community and I'm sure you can easily find buyers/partners and breeders to help you get your farm up and running! They've been an awesome help with mine! :)

Partnering up never came to my mind, either,Equ so I'll consider that for future adventures :)!

I'm thinking as to future generations...if I get too few,I'll have to add,but if I get too many...*sigh* lol.I can't remember how many I started with back when I used to play.

I almost feel like four wouldn't be enough for me...but when I breed,I want the number of foals I get to eventually breed down to one horse...does that make sense?Like say I did four, bred them, got two horses, bred them, and ended up with one.Maybe eight?Because, say I breed the final one horse to a foundation,it would still produce a new generation, rather than resetting to second generation due to one parent being a foundis, right?
