Maybe Opening an Etsy?

So I've recently gotten into a little jewelry making. Just some beading as a thing to do. And I had the hairbrained idea to open an Etsy to sell off the things I make. It's mostly really earthy looking stuff. Semiprecious gem chips, wood, stone, shell fragments, feathers and the like. I wouldn't be asking more than like $15 USD for anything, plus shipping.

I was wondering if anyone has an Etsy and could maybe share their experiences. If anyone has a better site to sell things through. Tips, pointers, whatever. I only have a couple things I've made since I've already made some things for friends.

Here's what I have of mine if you're curious. Crappy cellphone pictures are crappy. I'f I was selling something I'd definitely be using an actual camera. LMFAO

Those are really neat Chao! :D

I'd say go for it, but I don't have any experience with Etsy. I hear good things about it though!

I've had good experiences buying off there, but I usually only ever found shops because I ended up reblogging them on tumblr. I don't really have the like... Social media... Thing? To advertise heavily. That's my only real concern is not getting traffic.

I love etsy! I've have experience as both a seller and a buyer. Great community, really easy platform to work with. You should totally go for it, I love your pieces and these kind of things usually do decently well.

The key is prensentation. Your shop banner and item photos is what will bring people in from searches.  Also you can try to find to independant bloggers you can advertise your shop on in their sidebar or via sponsered blog post.

Trust me, I know that nothing will kill sales like having bad sales photos and graphics. LMFAO the same goes for selling animals and even rescue organizations with adoptions.

(So if you've got a good camera and spare time to donate, consider offering to be a volunteer photographer for a rescue. Side note.)

I'll send you the link, she doesn't have much on there yet, but she just moved and is trying to get her schedule down before breaking out the crafts. xD
She also made this really cute wire & bead horse head pendant necklace, I'll have to get a pic of too!

If you don't already have an Etsy account, you can follow a referral link, sign up, and get 40 free listings.

If you need a link, here's my referral link: http://etsy.me/1DG5k2D

I'm in a small group on fb and they've always had great advice.

Nice photos, good descriptions, and lots of listings. I think they recommend having 10 listings or more at a time.

Personal thank you messages after someone makes a purchase and having nice packaging. I'm sure you could find nice, cheap packaging ideas online! Bags, tags, thank you note, etc.

Etsy is lovely.

Present it like a business, advertise it, and you can do well!

Ooh Chao I love them!

I've been wanting to set up an Etsy myself for my stuff (jewelry, hand knitted scarves, etc) but I have no idea what I'm doing with that stuff as I've never sold anythign online before. So your adventure will be a learning experience for me as well! I will say this though. Thinking back to my ex husband and promoting his work, I spammed Facebook like a madwoman trying to move his art, whether with images of his stuff or ads for the local shows he was going to be in. So that is definitely something you can do. You can always blow up your Tumblr too with links to your work/shop/all of that.
